No reason why he should be higher at this point. He'll have to prove himself.

I don't think the SEC has ever had this many mediocre coaches. It's Nick Saban and everyone else.

Well since he hasn't coached a down of LSU football since becoming HC I would say this is fair and I'm sure they also know this could change drastically even during the season but for now they will not give him anything which is understandable. His last stint didn't go so well and O knows it. Now there would be a serious issue if he thought he did a fine job at OM then just blamed the program for his failures which isn't the case so.

Yep, respect is earned in most cases. Not all, but Ed will be just fine.

I'm optimistic, but it does sound sorta hopeless that we have Ed Orgeron contend with Saban.

I don't get the love for Mullen... 8 yrs with 3 above average seasons and he is the second best coach in the SEC. They were 6-7 last year... What gives?

Two years with Dak at QB with 10 and 9 win seasons... Not impressed.

We traded a coach ranked in the top half last year for one ranked almost dead last this year. Sounds about right for the fricked up Alleva process.

He should jump to 3rd or 4th after this season. The list isn't all that impressive. Lol

Tbh, I'm surprised he's not 14. If it's based on past coaching, that's where he should be.

Yea, he's done 2 ok jobs taking over as interim head coach for 2 fired coaches, but he hasn't done shite when he ran his own program at OM.

That being said, I hope he's learned from his past mistakes. So far, I like all the moves he's made since taking over for Les. Let's hope he can put it all together and take the resources he has at LSU, that he didn't have at OM, and make this program a championship contender again.

Based on their criteria, that ranking seems pretty fair.

eta: although I'd probably put him in front of Kirby smart. While O isn't nearly as strong a game planner, at least he's been a head coach at multiple stops and is a great recruiter. His future will depend on how well Canada does.

Any list that has Dan Mullen as the #2 coach in the SEC should be immediately laughed at and then used as toilet paper. Hugh Freeze at #6?

Oh, by the way, Orgeron already beat 4 of the higher rated coaches on this list. Summy, Freeze, Bieliema, and Mullen.

Get real.

Athlon only got 2 things right about CEO ranking.
Satan shoul be ranked ahead and Odom should be ranked behind him!
The rest!
At Ole Miss he as a disappointment. But Ole Miss and disappointment go together like beans and rice.
Since then at USC and LSU he is 12-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play. He has recruited well and upgraded the team's weakest aspect- OC.
12: Smart 8-5; 4-4 in weak east
11: Mason 13-24 in east
10: Stoops 19-30; 8-24
9: Muschamp 6-7 after 28-21 at Florida
8: Sumlin 44-21 looks better on paper so can't go all out on ranking but 17-15 SEC
7: Jones 30-21 ok
6: Freeze 39-25, 19 wins in 2014-15, BUT 5-7 and NCAA investigation. Not ok
5: Bielema 25-26. Really? Bragging on 15-11 last two years?!
4: Malzahn started 12-2 and NC! More than ok! But what have you done for me lately?
3: McElwain 2 SEC East championships and 19-8. Ok.
2: Mullen 61-42 at Mississippi State? OK!

So in summation: Saban (didn't let autocorrect do it's job this time) oh heck yeah!
Mullen, McElwain, Malzahn, and Jones? OK.
CEO should be #6 not #13. But I prefer to be underrated and perhaps overlooked.

But he has his future in his hands with every game going forward.

List looks about right. There's no objective means whatsoever to rank Orgeron ahead of any of the 12 coaches in front of him.
