Calvary admins are apparently unaware of the Streisand Effect.

No one was paying attention to the third boring arse valedictory speech of the night ... until the headmaster shut it down.

Now it's on the World Wide Web.

Everyone who applies to Baylor gets some kind of scholarship. A 60k scholarship to Baylor is nothing.

Baylor awards money automatically based on your ACT score. Depending on how high your score is it can almost cover full tuition; the high school doesn't need to submit anything for this. If she was also getting another scholarship from Baylor on top of that the school would have had to submit additional paperwork. This is most likely what didn't go properly. My daughter had more than $80K based on ACT and we didn't have to submit anything; ACT was sent automatically after she took the test.
No matter what the screw up was, the graduation was not the place to bring it up

There is a time and a place for everything.

That was neither.

And there's no such thing as a "four year scholarship" Scholarships are year to year...

We had no idea what our high school guidance counselor actually did.

We never had any interaction with him until we were Seniors. And that one interaction consisted of an appointment where he would ask if we had plans for college.

The entire appointment went like this:
"Where do you want to go to college?"
"What major?"
"Yeah, they have that major."
"Here's the number to call to get a registration packet."
"Good luck."

Then the guy shows up at our 20th Reunion.

She just made herself look bad. Not the time nor place for that.

60 g's is far from nothing and it's foolish to call it such. What arrogance.

My mother was a good one! I still have people stopping me on the side of the street telling me how she helped them out. And she still gets like 6-7 job offers a year to unretire (but she's back doing what she really wanted which is primary school counseling part time). But it's a very shitty job that doesn't pay very much that most people can't do correctly. My mother would work from 7:30AM till 9:PM for most of the school year. No one else at that school worked half as hard and their graduation rates versus her showed.

Why does she need the school to send the ACT scores? Is that new(ish)?

You think colleges would take the word of an applicant about their own scores?

Don't you select which colleges you want to receive your scores when you register for the test? Been a long time since I took it but i remember having to enter the codes for the colleges?

Wait she complained about a school counselor almost not sending paperwork to Baylor in time at her veldictorian speech? Holy shite that is pathetic.

No and they wouldn't necessarily take the school's word, either. That's why the testing service sends them directly.

Yep. You get 3 (maybe 5) "free" ones as part of the original test fee and you get a charge for additional ones just in case you blow the test out of the water and suddenly decide you want to go to skip Southeastern and go to Caltech, instead.

There is a time and place for things. Airing that out at graduation was not the time and place.

But... The school absolutely made it worse by cutting her off.

You're a good parent. Don't expect a guidance counselor to do everything to get your kid a scholarship. My mother was a guidance counselor and she was run ragged because she tried hard to get every kid what they deserved but with crappy parents a kid has a hard time.

It was kind of a catch-22. Yeah, it went viral because of the "injustice" but you can't have somebody going off script holding up a communal celebration just to basically tell everybody what a bunch of assholes she thinks they are.

seems like all the episcopal high schools have good college counselors with ins to the ivy league.
