Demps is in europe scouting

Demps scouts internationally every year and all we have to show for it are Brian Roberts, Luke Babbitt and Alexis Ajinca, so this is probably nothing, but The Bird Writes has an article with details on some of the players Demps would have been looking at.
LINK
There's more details at the link, other players mentioned were
Brad Wanamaker
Milos Teodosic
Anthony Randolph (yes, that Anthony Randolph)
Luka Doncic
quote:
Thomas Heurtel (Anadolu Efes): With Demps reportedly in the building, the Frenchman scored 25 points, dished out seven assists and knocked down five three-pointers. Although he’s in his 13th season and comes off the bench for his current team, he was awarded the EuroLeague MVP for February after averaging 16.7 points and 10.7 assists for the month. Also, it must be noted the 28-year old point guard has an interest in coming to the NBA.

Didn't we get Ayon from overseas, who was turned into Anderson?

True, I forgot Ayon. It sucks we couldn't keep him because he never found a place in the league but the Pels certainly could have used a high IQ passing big the past several years.

that's a nice little trip to Madrid, Istanbul and Moscow. I'd "recruit internationally" every year too on my boss' dime

Last year we promised Isaia Cordinier that we'd take him with one of our 2nds before Diallo fell. I would not be surprised if he is poking around some other young Europeans.

I just watched a few highlight videos of Thomas Heurtel and he looks like he'd make a great Frazier replacement, probably even an upgrade. Crafty thread the needle passes to bigs from the perimeter, change of pace dribble probing the paint, good finisher (at least in highlights) career 38.8% from 3. He looks tiny although he's listed at 6'2.

2015: Norman Powell, Andrew Harrison, Josh Richardson, Montrez Harrell, Jordan Mickey, Willy Hernangomez
2014: KJ McDaniels, Jerami Grant, Glenn Robinson III, Jokic, Jordan Clarkson, Dwight Powell
2013: Crabbe, Abrines, Withey, Muscala, Neto, Ennis, Lauvergne
2012: Crowder, Draymond, Middleton, Barton, Mike Scott, Kyle O'Quinn,
2011: Bogdonavich, Singler, Shelvin Mack, Parsons, Leuer, Lavoy Allen, Etwaun Moore, Isiah Thomas
These are the guys taken in the second round that have played in the NBA and stayed on teams. Some are all stars, some are end of bench guys.
33 players over 5 years, and only 6 were foreigners.
Probably best to stay here in the US of A.
This also confirms how stupid we've been over the last 10 years and used only 2 second round picks over that time frame, when you see the talent on that list.

Every player listed other than Luka Doncic is older and would be Free Agent targets, not 2nd round targets. If we included Frazier in a trade for example, maybe you replace him by giving Huertel part of an exception.

ah, I wasn't paying attention then. Just wanted to bitch about 2nd round picks that we never keep.

Wanamaker was a pretty good college player.

2014 - Glenn Robinson III
2012 - Jae Crowder
...were actually selected with our picks too.

This draft randomly sucks for foreign players. I think they are holding out because of the domestic depth. I would imagine he is scouting for free agents and looking at the 2018 draft too.

Yep, too bad he doesn't know that defense is part of basketball too =)

Luka Doncic is a nice player. If he's available in the 2nd round I wouldn't be upset if we picked him.

The article I linked to said he's a prospect for next year and is likely a 1st rounder.

I wonder if he's going to go in the lottery. He could sneak in depending on how deep of a class comes out of college

More than a first rounder, he's likely to be the first pick.

exactly
he is sensation this year. and is only 17.
he is not a prospect like Bender.
he plays a lot
right now he is projected as 1-3 pick
so forget about him.
Dell is right now at Final Four in Istanbul.
but he is not the only one GM there...

Only in Europe can a 28 year old be a thirteen year veteran. Damn they start early. We are so behind.
