Partly because, it's become about race. And just as many locals didn't come out to protest in favor of the monuments because they would be outed, their livelihoods threatened or their businesses and reputations, so too many AA's who otherwise didn't really care now do, because it's become a rallying point for the community.

That's because the voters of Orleans Parish overwhelmingly support removing the monuments.

Completely irrelevant. Mitch is a lame duck, but council members have to stand for reelection. You really believe they're so tone deaf to their own constituency that they'd vote 6-1 for something a majority of voters oppose?

It wasn't up for a public vote because that dickhead knew he would lose.

Yes.
ETA: The reason yes is because this one issue is not major enough for them to get ousted. FOr most, just having the D next to their name will suffice. This is completely inconsequential to the questions I've asked you though. And we both know you're dodging the question because you don't have a good answer.

Removal is a huge PITA that nobody really wants.

Pitch them a huge BBQ instead of spending the money on statues, and you will get 99.9999% of the city voting for them to stay

Let's say we put the removal of the statues up to a public vote, do you think the majority of people would be in favor of the removal?

Yes, because the majority of the people would rather the mayor and city council be focusing their attention and resources to fix problems like the high violent crime rate, severely understaffed police force, and awful condition of roads throughout the city. Issues that actually affect the day to day life of residents.

I hope there was some shady illegal backroom deal with Mitch and the removal contractor or whoever gets possession of the statues and that it comes to light and ends up with Mitch sharing a cell with Nagin when all is done.

Well, everyone KNOWS that SOMETHING has seriously gone down. But they just can't get to it because no one else in authority at any level has the stones to oppose and investigate the Mayor and succeed.

Which people are voting for them to stay?

lol we're out numbered in that city. Especially if they get the voter turn out they desire.

This is looney. Just give it up

You're acting as if the mayor doesn't already simultaneously handle multiple responsibilities.

He can tear those shits down and complete his other tasks at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. I

Actually, for the vast majority of his term...Mitch has proven that he CAN'T. Why do you think that he's so obsessed with doing this to save his legacy?

As a person in favor of the monuments I am offended that I am also labeled a white Supremacist which I am not. My personal opinion is that these are historical monuments and are representative of a past we can't change and that Mitch is just using this issue for his own perceived political gain. There are many black citizens that I know and respect that believe Mitch has created an unnecessary confrontation that is very divisive in our community.

Murder isn't legal. Therefore your straw man argument is invalid.
