School Lunch Crisis: Oh this upsets me. Fighting mad.

It's CNN but the principle is still applicable. LINK
The fact there are children in this country who are not getting a hot meal each day with the tax money I spend just infuriates me to no degree.
Children are a most important commodity and to not provide a basic essential hot meal is unacceptable. I know these children are part of our underclass for the most part, but if they're not getting a hot meal at school, they probably aren't getting one at home either.
The shaming is what kids do and I have less sympathy towards feelings as the article puts it then not providing hot lunch to all.
I know they're trailer trash. Illegals. Ghettoites. But if their parents aren't providing a basic lunch, it's a problem.
I'm as much a hardliner as the next conservative, but this can't continue.
P.S I'm not sure if kids are still allowed to bring their lunch but I think the principle here stands. If a parent can't pay for a reduced lunch at $2.35, I doubt their dutiful enough to prepare a lunch beforehand.

Blame the government. They use our money to buy votes FIRST. Then they might feed the children.
THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Gotta pay for the salaries and benefits of the Teachers Union fatcats.

I know this is said sarcastically with a Cheshire grin, but this bothers me frankly. I never went without and was fortunate, but there were children in our class who couldn't afford lunch.
I remember my father was an operator at DOW for years in early/mid 90s and once a month would come through and pay the overdue balances for all the kids in my class at our private school even though they'd never cut the children off.

I will say this, no child should have his food taken from him. At a local Jr. High, if you get into trouble or what they called PAC, you get a PB&J and a milk and a salad rather than the hot lunch. This is only if you get in trouble. In addition they have to eat away from the rest of the students and are not allowed to talk. The thing is that it works. Kids would much rather eat hot lunch so there for they dont get in trouble as much.
But, a child should always have food no matter what. Many of these kids come to school just so they can eat, because their parent either can t provide or are worthless and blow the money on themselves.

yeah, the shaming part will continue even if all lunches become free, since the rich kids will just bring their own lunch from home and then kids will be shamed for eating the school lunch

LMAO, the "free lunch" crowd is not getting "shamed"... They get lunch... The one's getting "shamed" are the ones whose parents don't qualify for the freebies and might not can afford it OR they forget to put more money in a kid's account...
I highly doubt that the "free lunch" kids are being given a sandwich while the paying kids can select something different... There would have already been a civil suit over this because obviously someone's "rights" have been violated...
If you want to get pissed off about your tax dollars, tell me why the food stamps are not cut for the "free lunch" crowd? Most qualify for free breakfast and free lunch...

It most scenarios this is probably irrelevant
In schools where this is common, there are no rich kids, and like 90% of the kids are on assistance.

Caddo, Bossier and Desoto Parish have free lunch for all kids regardless of income.

Nobody needs a hot meal. A cold sandwich is just fine. These kids can't afford meal but they've got their shoes and phones. I've taught high school classes where every black kid had free or reduced lunch and $300-$600 phone. Many bragged about getting free lunch even though they could afford to buy it.

My kids are in the public school system in ebr . We got a letter about 4/5 years ago that said that because the average kid in the system is below the poverty line, or whatever matrix they use, lunch would be free for everybody. So rest easy, even OT ballers like me that make hundreds and hundreds of dollars every month, get free school lunch.

This is how it should be honestly.
I believe in the entire state of Georgia has free lunch.

It was church affiliated and they waived in many church families who couldn't afford the $2,500 a year to send them there.

When our children stop being the fattest and most obese children in the world and start looking like the children of Somalia then I will worry about this.

Shocked! No mention of parents. "Not getting a hot meal each day with the tax money I spend just infuriates me to no degree."
All those EBT Cards and no hot meals.
"Children are a most important commodity and to not provide a basic essential hot meal is unacceptable."
Another CNN talking point hammer.

Whatever happened to free lunch programs? We had them when I was in school. I hated for those kids then because there was a separate line for free lunches. So everyone knew who the poor kids were. But at least they ate the same food that we all ate.

This is what happens when more kids are on subsidized lunches than aren't. It makes it easier on admin to just give everyone a lunch.
Those parishes must be full of poors.
