Secured some funds for a new desktop and I'm definitely going with the 27in iMac. Apparently there will be a refresh on them in October, but it sounds like they're gearing it towards professionals (upgraded processors, drives, etc.). I'm not using it for anything too demanding beyond some occasional heavy data analysis.... should I wait?

If you really need something immediately, go ahead and get one. But if you can wait, I'd wait.

But I'll also say, as someone with a 27 inch iMac in my home office, my next computer will be a custom build I do myself. I've been a mac user for a while now, but about 2 years ago I built a PC for myself at work, and it has been great.

If you need a computer now, then get the current gen model.

However, do not pay full retail price. Consider a refurb, or wait for a sale at Best Buy or something.

You could also consider buying maxed out Mac mini and adding the monitor of your choice

Macs are overpriced. You should get a Microsoft Surface Studio, Dell XPS all-in-one or HP Envy

People still buy iMacs? I thought Apple was going to stop making them.

You know more people still run Windows XP then ALL of Mac OS and OSX combined. I think they dropped to only 6 percent market share.

If you can wait, it's always good to get the latest and greatest.

I want one too, but I've waited this long, so I'll definitely wait until October. Even if it's too much machine for me, you'd have to think the current model will drop.

I am actually thinking about getting a Mac mini with a tv as a monitor. I was gonna start this thread later, but may as well ask it here. If I get a mini now and then upgrade later to an iMac, should I just use the mini as an extra hard drive/storage? Or is that a waste of a processor and I should sell it or give it to my son?
