Woj moving to ESPN

Last week, ESPN cut some of its reporters and on-air personnel. But the sports programmer is also hiring: It has finalized a deal to hire Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo’s star NBA reporter.
Sources familiar with ESPN’s plan say Wojnarowski will begin working for ESPN in time to cover the June 22 NBA draft. I’m told the network also intends to bring aboard some of the staff of The Vertical, the NBA site Wojnarowski launched for Yahoo 2016.

So ESPN cut a bunch of local guys like Justin Verrier and great national guys like Marc Stein to buy The Vertical. If Bleacher Report has the capital they should double down on becoming legit and hire a bunch of the ESPN cast offs.

I mean not the worst idea. Now you have Woj and Shefty, who end up breaking most NFL and NBA moves/news driving people to your site.

I think Marc Stein broke about the same amount of news as Woj, he just wasn't focused on building a brand like Woj has.

That means Woj won't be able to break the draft picks before they are announced anymore... now way ESPN lets him do that.

i get the move. Woj is great. but like you say, Stein is no slouch either. and it's not a 1-1 replacement.
just weird that ESPN publicly shifted away from expensive, name reporters/talent...now they will shell out, i assume, a couple million annually for Woj alone.
if they wanted a dedicated NBA site, like the Vertical or 538 or Undefeated or the Crossover, they had talent in house to do it. Lowe, Pelton, Arnovitz, Stein, Windhorst, Ford, Thorpe + guys like Verrier embedded with teams across the league, TrueHoop podcasts, and the Jump. hire an editor-in-chief and build something cool

Probably a mistake. ESPN doesnt give a shite about their staff. At least he reports on 1 of the 2 sports espn talks about though.

Would rather they kept Verrier, Stein, Strauss, and Ford than add Woj. Since he will be contractually bound not break draft news minutes before it happens for broadcast purposes. And thats the best thing about Woj.

Would be hilarious if Stein starts breaking draft picks this year.
