For me it really depends on your situation. Is a 30k bump a huge raise in your family's total income? My wife is about to graduate and could probably land a job making 30k more in Dallas over New Orleans, but that's not even something we're considering. We're not deadset on staying in New Orleans, as it definitely has drawbacks, but we're not ready to jump to a cookie-cutter metropolis like DFW either. (No offense to those who live there)

This is not accurate at all. I love New Orleans just as much as the next Louisianaian, but Dallas is leaps and bounds a better city. The opportunity is exponentially better and it's way safer with equitable entertainment options. No other city can compete with the culture and special events of New Orleans, but the cons are glaring in NOLA.

If you are in any kind of industry Dallas is a way better option.

No offense taken and yes, with the tremendous growth what you describe has somewhat occurred but the neighborhood infrastructure and schools to support are exceptional. I prefer Fort Worth over Dallas but both have beautiful, established areas.
