No joke, I just didn't know. Why would I? I'm an American.

And I was asking why we honor Confederate generals with statues, when we (the USA) defeated the Confederacy. I wasn't able to get any legitimate responses...

And to equate naming Army helicopters after Indian tribes to erecting Confederate statures is a lazy argument; we understand the fact we invaded the Indians' land, and we honor their bravery and skill in battle by naming weapons after them. I see the Confederacy, a rouge faction that committed essentially treason, as wildly different in all aspects.

One thing we can all agree on is that Europeans are smug.

Because it is basic political geography/world history that you should have learned in high school, at the latest. There's no way you got into UVA -- do not believe.

Because there are millions of your fellow Americans who are of Irish decent and there's been countless number of tv shows and movies about Ireland and the UK.

You almost have to go out of your way to be ignorant of the matter.

Hey did you know there's a French Canada?

RFK, you need to spend sometime reading history...broadly. Western Civ, American history, etc. Honest recommendation.

You would know this by having read any number of thousands of book, known anything about "the troubles", maybe watched the news or read a paper in the last 40-50 years. Or you could have learned it from watching any number of probably a 100 or more movies.

How could you not know?

Surely the irony is not lost?

People are smug....Europeans are just honest with others about it....most Americans keep it to themselves...

I was in Italy a few weeks ago. I made the mistake of telling some Euros that I voted for Trump. Talk about some smug motherfrickers after that. They proceeded to tell me that I was a racist, idiotic bigot.

I've read this part twice, and still can't count all the ironies.

Suffice to say, invading tribal lands and rogue factions committing essentially treason are essentially the Irish/English history of which you are apparently ignorant.

I suggest you delete your account and create another with a different name, before someone stumps you by asking you what the letters "RFK" stand for.

Dear God

and people wonder why the world hates "arrogant American cowboys".

Smug? She was probably trying hard to be civil, because you offended the hell out of her, and clearly just didn't know any better. Do you have any idea just how much animosity is built up between the Irish and UK?

Next time you're back in the States, try walking up to some protester after their march. If they're BLM, try telling them you think Southern rednecks have a nice culture to be proud of; if they're Rednecks try telling them you think the BLM marches are a wonderful thing.

See if their reaction is "smug".
