Is this greatest show of all time or what? I fricking love this show..every time I get a day off I watch it for the 2 or so hours it airs on WGN. It isnt often that a TV show based on a movie is as good as the film, and they nailed it with this one.
Classic southern TV show. Name a better southern-based TV show. I triple dog dare you!

Great show. For me it was an afternoon nap show as well. Mindless and easy to watch.
A lot of that show was filmed in Hammond. Several Cast members developed serious addiction problems when it was filming there(from what I understand someone else might know more).

Caroll O'Connor, despite being an Irish mick from Manhattan, was almost a dead ringer for my Alabama-born paternal grandfather, who was a cop in Prattville most of his adult life.
He was a big fan of Archie Bunker, but he would have REALLY loved Sheriff Gillespie. Sadly he passed away before the series premiered.
I haven't seen the show that much, but there's one episode that is one of the most powerful dramas I've ever seen, in any format: A Trip Upstate

Pretty sure its the only television series that has ever been set in Mississippi.

How about the movie?
One of the classics. I love that movie.

One of my all time favs! It's kinda messed up all the problems the cast ended up going thru with addictions and other issues. Must have been from spending to much time in Mississippi

I remember my grandmother watching this show as well as Murder She Wrote when I was a kid.

Not what I would exactly consider "Southern Based TV show"

Are you sure they didn't already have these problems? A lot of actors/entertainers seemed to have drug addiction issues in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
