What benefits are there to not wearing shoes?

Running shoes aren't firm enough for heavy squatting and deadlifting.

It's not that you can't lift in them, it's just not recommended for serious lifters.

I recently bought a pair of New Balance Minimus shoes as they are highly recommended as a great weightlifting and cross training shoe. A lot of hardcore powerlifters like Converse Chuck's.

OP said workout bro, not crossfit bro.

BigJ is the correct answer to the OP.

Chucks are good, Vans are good, go old school with some boots, or wear lifting shoes to help further and increase ROM of the able.

But barefoot is ok if you're careful and not in danger of bashing feet with bars or plates.

Bilj eats 5000 grams of protein a day.

I have no doubt that is true but does he have them all spunk in a bowl so he can eat it with a spoon or does he suck it out himself and swallow it?

When I was in HS this guy blew out his shoes doing legs and tore his ACL or something, I can't remember but he had to get surgery on his new. Crazy thing was, it was the second time he blew out his shoe. Only guy I've heard of doing that and he did it twice.

Really only on front squats

I have a hard time breathing when I lift so I dont have much air to grunt with

I think squatting with no shoes is stupid though. Makes no difference unless your shoes are wacky.

Have you had any ankle/knee/leg injuries? If so, I would absolutely recommend squatting without shoes. I've had terrible ankles my whole life and I always dreaded squatting. Since I've made the switch my ankles feel more comfortable while squatting and with better form. Shoes are like wearing a cast all day making your tendons and muscles in your feet weaker. By working out without shoes on it will make those muscles stronger. Look up "Born to Run" a book by Christopher McDougall if you want to understand the benefits of running/working out without shoes on.

I am going to try shoeless squatting next week

I have awful flexibility which is a reason why I have never been a good squatter. Everyone else in my position group at TCU was squatting 500+ and I never got higher than 475
