Heading to Biloxi with the wife, for the first time. Any recs for local places to eat or are the Beau restaurants the best. Staying at either the White House or the Beau.
Thanks

Go over to Government Street Grocery in Ocean Springs. It's kind of like Chelsea's in Baton Rouge, but better -- real good burgers and beer selection.

Mary Mahoney's is a landmark in downtown Biloxi. Have a few cocktails and get an order of marinated crab claws. Oh and check out the men's room. They put ice in the urinals.

The Blow Fly Inn is a good place in Gulfport. It's on the water. Price wise, it's in between Mary Mahoney's and Government Street Grocery.

Project Lounge steak sandwich. Bring cash.

For a serious rec, I like Salute in Gulfport for Italian.

Half Shell is pretty good but the oysters run on the small side. If you like eating royal reds I'd highly recommend Steamers near the Island View in Gulfport. Very good for the portion and price. The house salad their is also to die for!

Half shell is near beau

Corks and cleaver in Gulfport is good

The blind tiger just opened on beach in Biloxi by Margaritaville.

Downtown ocean springs has lots of good options. Charred is probably best. Murky waters BBQ is best BBQ on coast.

If you're looking for casual spots, The Fillin Station is in downtown Biloxi. My one complaint is that half of the place is a bar and allows smoking. If you can get past that it's got good food and isn't always overrun with people.

I tend to eat in the area from BSL to Long Beach but Govt. Street Grocery in OS is on my list to try.

Holy crap there are some terrible suggestions...
Half shell, salute....
half shell taste like Sysco, salute is not very good Italian.

Go to ocean springs or go the the pass/ Bay Area. Drive the beach...
Bay/pass, do trapanis or sycamore house.
Prime or Jia in the beau.
Coras in the White House wasn't bad at all when we stayed there for the marathon. Good hangar steak.
Ocean springs, all good little joints over there. From pizza to Mediterranean.
Gulfport has the BBQ joint downtown and Tonys pizza.

Personally, other than for nostalgia stay away from Mary mahoneys. The food was meh at best the last 2 times I've been. And ol boy can be a tad over bearing and will take over a room.

Gaston generally stays on top of things there. I go once a month to visit the MIL. The wife is from the bay.

I've only been to Half Shell once, but it was excellent. I highly recommend it.

For coffee and a sammich, check out The Grind Coffee and Nosh. Simple food, well executed.

Great breakfast menu too (cinnamon rolls are superb).

There's a Doe's Eat Place in Margaritaville now.

Like Cork said, during those dates, traffic on Hwy 90 will be virtually gridlocked for 12 miles.....unless sitting in traffic and watching impromptu twerking is your thing.

I went to Mary Mahoney's in January for the first time. I was not impressed with the food at that price point. I almost laughed when they brought the salad. It was lettuce and 2 grape tomatoes. I don't even recall that it had croutons. Just lettuce and tomatoes. Service was okay but still I expected more from this revered restaurant.

I don't care for the food at Shaggy's either.

Restaurants I do like:

Trapani's, Blind Tiger and 200 North Beach all in Bay St. Louis

Bacchus on the Beach, Asian Paradise, Hook all in Pass Christian

Murky Waters, Salute is ok, Blow Fly Inn (haven't been since new owners took over) in Gulfport

The Reef and the lunch buffet at the Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi

Haven't ventured much to Ocean Springs but hope to soon.

Gave up on the buffet at the Beau a few years ago. Oh and don't eat at the Hard Rock Cafe either. Awful food!

I am going to the Beau Rivage this weekend. There are many good restaurants in and within two blocks of the Beau. My favorite is BR Prime if you don't mind spending some money. I tell myself it is cheaper than sitting at the gambling tables. Stalla Italian Restaurant is very good. Mary Mahoney's is across the street. Their food is good but you go there for the atmosphere. Down the block from there is the Half Shell Oyster Bar which is pretty good. We go to Biloxi several times a year and we usually choose from those places.
