I think he'll be under serious consideration for the IU job.

I'm thinking it's Alford's to turn down, after that they make a run at Marshall or Miller.

So then UCLA would be open. This guy will always have a better opportunity than LSU.

Explain to me then how South Carolina that has about 10% of our basketball tradition can pull a fairly successful Power 5 coach yet we can't pull a mid major guy not named Marshall or Miller? Those two will always be in line for a blue blood job before this guy that makes 400K a year. We can do better than Kermit. The question is will Aleva put in the work.

What's our great basketball tradition? When was our last championship game appearance? Butler's had one of those fairly recently. As an LSU fan, most of my life has seen basketball season as the break between football and baseball season. Every now and then we have a decent team that has a shot at making the tourney and one magic March about 10 years ago we made an improbable run to the Final 4.

But to act like this is some destination job people should be clamoring for is absurd.

Well, I guess have 3 of the 50 greatest players of all time, the NCAA all time leading scorer, the single season point per game average leader, we've been to more final fours, and have the most sec titles of anyone not named Kentucky. How many final fours have Xavier or Cincinnati or butler been too?

LSU may not be a destination job in basketball but it should be on par with some football schools in terms of basketball revenue. Examples: Ohio State's 3-year average of basketball revenue in 2016 is $21 mil and almost triple LSU's basketball revenue of $7.9 mil. Arkansas $15.9 mil. Tennessee $15.9 mil and some others. It all begins with a competent AD who hires the best coaching personnel to produce the best products that people want to see.

Wrong, it's the other way around. USCe has been a strong program from their days in the SOCON and the ACC. Frank McGuire is a Hall of Fame Coach. Won over 200 games in the ACC in a 15 year period. USCe is a BB School.

And just won it's first NCAA tournament game since 1973.

You asked about our tradition and didn't ask for a time frame. Last final four was 06. In fact I've been to all 3 final fours we played in. When was Cincinnati last final four? What about Xavier? Im quite certain Xavier has never been, and Cincinnati has been since oscar Robertson in 1960. I mean I guess those 2 national titles in 1961&1962 are about as good as ole miss national championship in football in the 60's. Do you consider ole miss a destination job in football steeped in tradition?

Laugh all you want, you're sadly uninformed. Carolina's Basketball tradition dwarf's LSU. Martin was brought in to resurrect the Program. Frank McGuire is a legend in ACC Basketball. Where I live in SC, ACC Basketball still trumps anything the SEC has to offer.

He's not a better job. That's ridiculous. He may have a better team but Butler's not a better job than LSU. LSU can win a national title. Butler can't.

Also went to the final four in 92. 7 straight tournament appearances. Cincinnati is a superior basketball program than LSU.

I don't know if I would say Butler can't win a national title. They went to two straight national title games just a few years ago and were literally inches away from a title.

LSU has the resources to be a great program if the athletic dept didn't just look at the basketball program as something they "have to pay for", but don't discredit Butler. They are a top notch program right now

That depends on demand for services this year not past salary.

Re: LSU v. S Carolina argument...

Our basketball history far exceeds anything they've got on the books. We've more than doubled any accomplishment that can be used as a bar of success (conf titles, tourney appearances, S16 or F4 appearances, draft picks, etc).

Their current situation when compared to ours comes down solely to commitment. They have a fantastic arena and a legit power 5 HC. We choose to let our 40 year old gym grow further outdated (I know we built a new wing a couple years ago, but that doesn't generate revenue like fan amenities and premium seating options) and we hire bargain basement mid-majors who didn't even have overwhelming success at that level. We are not committed to having a successful basketball program, it's as simple as that.
