Revised proposal: Patriots send Butler and pick 32 to Saints for Cooks and Saints' 2nd-round pick (No. 42). NO/Butler talk long-term deal. LINK

We do this were getting fleeced.
If we have to throw in a 2nd were essentially trading Cooks for Butler and to move up 11 spots in the second round.
No second rounder included.

man that's a better trade than Cooks for Butler straight up but I still feel like Butler is a system guy. never trust Patriots defenders when they leave NE.

It looks like Butler has a big pay day coming. Isn't that part of the reason the Saints are trying to move Cooks? And doesn't Cooks have two more low cost years left? I would say a pick is needed for me to start to like this trade. Not liking it straight up.

Is he? Malcolm Butler is an elite corner, that's worth a good bit.
Should have made it clearer:
Cooks is way more valuable because you get 2 years of well below market value out of him in a trade.
With Butler, you get 1 and need to immediately extend him for big $$$

No to that
I'd be OK with just 32+Butler

He's an elite corner under BB and patriots defensive scheme.
Feel like he'd get to us and suck arse.

It has to be Butler and 32. I'd take 14 or 18 straight up before just Butler and a mid round.

Moving up 11 spots could be pretty damn beneficial. It's much better to have a 1st round pick than 2nd due to the 1st round rookie structure and 5th year option for the team.
Throw in a 6th and I'm 100% down

That's not how this works.

Butler's good but far from a lock down corner. NE would have to include a high draft pick in this deal or Loomis needs to be run out of town
Posted on 3/9/17 at 9:29 am to TigerBait1127
They'd have to throw in a mid round imo

Well apparently they are discussing Butler + #32 in exchange for Cooks and our 2nd rounder.
Def intriguing
I guess my biggest issue would be the opportunity to get a top 20 pick for Cooks when you have corners that are supposedly on the trading block that offer no cap risk.
If you can get Talib from Denver, even with his $11m salary, for a 4th or 5th, I'd rather do that.
That way if he sucks, there's little cap costs in moving on from him as non of it is guaranteed

Keep our second they can have the third too much talent in top 50 players this year.

quote:Dude.. Cooks is not that great. He's just a product of our offense. He didn't even have a good year last year. Butler is an elite corner. I understand what you're saying with the money situation but Butler is a far better player and a much needed player to make our team better.
How is it a fair trade?
Saints would lose Cooks on a cheaper deal with a 5th year option for Malcolm Butler, who's a RFA and due a payday.
We'd be better off trading a pick to Denver or overpaying a FA
Converting Cooks into a good draft pick makes sense with the rookie contract structures.

Player for player, its prolly pretty even. But the contract thatll have to come with Butler is a deal breaker, unless theres other pick(s)

Sean Payton said it will take a lot to get Brandin Cooks. Sources say they still want quality defensive starter, plus draft picks over 2 yrs

No he isn't. Cooks murdered Butler is joint practice last year. I'm not down with this trade at all. Especially since NE just signed Gilmore.
