Assuming they take an L against the dawgs on Wednesday. Before or after Sunday (3/12/17) @ noon?

this is sort of a dumb question. Of course he's going to get to coach Wednesday no matter what.

Are you fricking kidding me??? This is some of the absolute WORST reading comprehension I've ever seen.

I hope he doesn't get fired for the sake of ALL THESE FIRE JJ THREADS.

Sorry, my mistake. I read it as "does he get fired before or after the game Wednesday." I guess I'm just fatigued with all these JJ firing threads that they've started to blend together.

To answer the OP, I honestly don't know, don't care, as long as it happens. And it will happen.

Alleva's answer to this: He just needs to beat Arkansas!

If he doesn't get axed on the first day after they lose then he will be back for next season

Alleva rotated off the selection committee, so there should not be anything preventing this from happening sooner rather than later.

It really does seem like a good year to be on the market. Outside of maybe Georgetown, we should be one of the better openings this year.

April 1st sounds about right. Money saved plus coaches we might want to interview would more than likely be coaching teams in one of the postseason tournaments, and possibly would want to wait for interviews after their teams season has ended to avoid distractions. There is one thing that is certain. JJ will not coach LSU next season .

I don't know if there is an April 1st clause, but if so, LSU needs to do whatever they need to do procedurally to make sure Jones is "dismissed", "reassigned" etc. and make a move WELL before April 1st. Alleva dragging his feet on Johnson is what got LSU Johnny Jones in the first place.

New coaches are hired in late March. Just look at Oklahoma St., Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech last season. They ALL had their new coach in place before April 1. The spring signing period is in mid/late April, and these guys want to either catch up in recruiting quickly at their new job or solidify their class if they are staying put. Alleva fricked up by not letting Johnson go soon after the conclusion of the 11-12 season, thus getting into the coaching carousel very late that year.

I suspect there will be some announcement the day after LSU loses in the SECT. Mizzou is already in the market. Same for NC State (though they seem to have zeroed in on Archie Miller). Other firings are going to come about soon after the conf. tournaments end. I think Illinois will be looking for a new coach, as well as Washington, Clemson, and possibly Indiana and Georgia. Other than Indiana, there are no "blue bloods" in that mix. However, LSU NEEDS to be in the market well before April 1st or risk getting passed over.

If Alleva waits until April 1st to fire Jones then I think he even further solidifies the fact that he is a useless AD with ZERO foresight. That, or he has a guy in place for whom their is no real "market" other than LSU (think Davis or Stansbury). Just like football, the "search" should have been going on in private well before March. He may not be able to hire his guy right away because they are participating in the NCAAAT, but he damn sure better be ready to go once the potential targets are eliminated from the tournament.

His first two basketball hires have been whifs. His football hire (on paper) is very underwhelming (though everyone hopes it works out). Tennis, golf, softball, etc. are great. But at every school the top of the food chain is football and men's basketball. Having an empty PMAC game after game is a complete failure to maximize LSU's resources. It's time for Alleva to deliver or get the hell out!

Alleva will give JJ the benefit of the doubt and wait until the NCAA National Tournament field is announced.

Yea the waiting til April thing is a bit misleading. It's probably true but you can't wait that long if you're going after another college coach and you think you've got your guy. It would be like saying "We can't fire our football coach until January 1."

Of course Alleva sucking dick at both life and his job is the X factor at play here.

Forgot about Georgetown. Thompson III has really fallen flat the last two seasons and has been passed up by not only Villanova, but Xavier, Butler, Marquette, Seton Hall, Creighton, etc. He's 10 years removed from the Final Four appearance and their tournament history since that time has been virtually nothing but underachieving. That should be a great job situated in the Beltway talent pool. But you've got a dad who casts a huge shadow over the program who would probably not be all that pleased with his son being dismissed. I wouldn't want to be that AD

JA has a temper and may try and make the bb fans suffer. I think this will be one nail in his coffin. If JJ is here next year JA will be looking for a job with JJ.

How can anyone justify keeping him?
The attendance(&I was there) for the last 3 home games avaeraged about 2,000-2,500 actual. That just shows complete disinterested fans. Hell they sell like 4,500 season tickets so that means even half of them didn't go to the games

Yeah it's a tough situation because Big John is Georgetown basketball. While there's no logical reason that university ever should've had that basketball program in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s you can't really argue they can't compete when Villanova, Butler, and Xavier can.

There's about 3 posters on this board that want to keep him, and it has nothing to do with his coaching ability.

That would be the best case we could hope for. Get rid of both 'em and get a competent AD id to make the hire.

This is regarding the report on another board that the rumor is JJ is staying another year from TAF.

How reliable can a TAF rumor be? Someone please correct me if wrong, but weren't there rumors from TAF (and others) that Les Miles would be gone as head football coach after the A & M game in 2015?
