Holy shite OP is dumb as frick.
Posted on 2/27/17 at 6:58 pm to MississippiLSUfan
Dude, the chances of this going wrong and them getting killed is at least landing on one space on a Roulette wheel. I wouldn't want to be near it personally.
And they're paying to do it. Kudos to these brave souls.

Not really. All I see is chicken-shite this, coward that, risking lives
If I make a backwards-driving airbag-less one-wheeled vehicle, and you're the dummy who's willing to pay me to drive it, I'd say you're the goofball risking your life.

Totally agree. Hence my thread. Do you have any idea of how much we are paying this guy as taxpayers? He risks nothing. And he not only takes our money, but also several hundred millions from some poor rich astronaut wannabe schmucks.
I say drop one and get in the capsule with the other one. Nothing in the history of space travel would be more epic. He wins absolutely everything if he does it.

Why not one person and him?
Because if the passengers are killed nobody else has the sales ability and resources to keep things moving.
Plus he does have a responsibility to make money off it if he can instead of using it as a way to get cheap thrills for himself. Notice he isn't planning just one trip, so it has to make money.

Why would I want to greatly risk this huge innovator's life though? We're directly investing in him with our future. Yes, I don't want him on that rocket that has a good chance of exploding or something going wrong mid-flight or reentry. Let someone else who has other talents do it, not put him at risk who we've invested millions in.

Umm, no, it could explode if something even slightly goes wrong. There is a high risk of disaster that's easily into the single digit percentiles. Sure it would be epic, but I don't think he's going to want to risk his life when he can do more things for the world living.

Once for each term. In different posts, I think. I'll stand by both descriptions until he steps off of the elevator into his own creation. Being rich and smart doesn't mean that he gets a pass on risking other people's lives. No matter whether they are paying him to do it or not.
He's not a dick, in my opinion. Just seems a little unsure of the results of his vision, so far. I hope that he succeeds. But I also hope that he mans up and places himself in the places that he seems so willing to place others.

If he's going to do it he'll wait for the big payoff this shite is peanuts but first human being on another planet- that's immortality right there- that's better than US President in terms of history books because its international (think about how many people you know could name say the Premier of China (insert country here in 1987 vs. the first man to step on the moon). That's something worth risking your life and putting your fortune on the line to achieve.

By your logic, then the President should be personally on the front lines fighting with the troops. Yes people will get in harms way over Musk's decisions, but so does anyone who has to answer to a higher power.

No. That's a bad place to go. Einstein. Salk. Curie. All of them contributed greatly to mankind. But is a crackhead in Brooklyn's life any more, or less precious than theirs? Careful...there be dragons that way.
He deeply believes that this will work. My point is to let him prove it with his own life. The world will keep spinning without him one day either way.

The theme is now gubment subsidy and fraud.

Leaders of countries are slightly different than private enterprises. I'd absolutely love to see leaders of countries duke it out in battle cages, btw. But that's not reality.

Yes, I actually do think Elon Musk's life is more precious and valuable to a crackhead in NYC. I didn't have to think about that for more than a second. People like Musk can improve the world. The crackhead won't.

Then put Trump on the front lines. Hell, he's the one who believes in his work, so let him put his money where his mouth is.
And yes, people will likely die in pursuit of Musk's work. People have died to advance mankind's place in the universe. I'd rather him be back here planning it and get badass pilots like Buzz Aldrin go out into the solar system and expand our species.
How dumb are you?

Wow. I thought that we were having a conversation that involved a difference of opinion. No further interaction necessary.
Thank you for at least a few interesting replies.

I agree with the OP. There are numerous examples throughout history where the inventor has put their life on the line to prove their dreams can become reality.
