Why this year's Gonzaga team is different

In addition to being 28-0 and likely finishing the season undefeated, they are well ahead of previous Gonzaga teams.
It's hard to gauge how good they are because they play in a weak conference but look at the compared to other high seeded Gonzaga squads.
-The 2013 team also went 16-0 in conference play but won five of those games by less than 10 points.
-The 2015 team that went to the Elite Eight didn't have many conference blowouts either, and lost game to BYU.
This year Gonzaga is shredding teams. They beat ranked Florida, Arizona, Iowa State, St. Mary's (twice by double digits). Nonranked games against Power 5 foes garnered wins against Tennessee and Washington (by 27 points).
Meanwhile, they're winning conference games by an average of 26 points a game. I don't care who you are- it's hard to be that focused and blow out that many opponents by those margins, every game. Unless you're really, really good. On that note, they're at halftime now and winning 44-16. How do you even give a shite about playing hard defense at that point? I don't think they're going to win it all but they are going to prove some haters wrong this postseason.
Bonus discussion question: if they drop a game, even the WCC Championship game, do they keep a 1 seed?

They would keep the one seed.

They are up 40 right now against San Diego with 16 mins to go in the 2nd half.

The fourth 1 seed is an interesting question.
North Carolina looking more and more like they might grab it. But you've also got two 3-loss teams in the Pac 12 that have an argument too. If Arizona wins out and wins the Pac 12 tournament in Vegas, they might get it.

I feel like every year we hear "this years gonzaga team is different", yet they always flame out relatively early in the tournament

The year Gonzaga team is different, is the year the media stops talking about them again.
Zags will make a Final Four when they are something like #34 in the nation like the old days.

Gonzaga is now up 51 with six mins to play

zags have only lost 4 times out of 18 times to higher seeds. Seth Curry with Davidson was one and Wichita State was the latest who went on to the final four and had three NBA players drafted from that team.
They are now up 60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zags beat zona.
One hypothetical loss to mary in champ game wcc playing 3rd time vs mary or head to head.

Huh? Zags have never made a Final Four. They've been to two elite eights 1999 and 2015. Their first in DI NCAA tournament appearance was in 1995, where are these old days with Final Fours?? lol

IMO, their best shot ever at a Final Four was the Adam Morrison team that dominated UCLA for 37 minutes and blew a 11 point lead in the final 3 minutes. UCLA got to the title game that season.

And were an undefeated 1 seed the next season.

They get blown out in the sweet 16. Cocky sum bitches who have played a garbage schedule minus 2-3 games.

I count five times there (2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2013).
Actually, that chart is kind of damning: they've never outperformed their seed when being seeded in the top half of the bracket (1 through 8 seed) and they've underperformed their seed five times over that stretch (2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2013) when ranked in the top half of the bracket.
