So is that why some controls are backwards for some systems? Is it based on the emulator?
Every libretro-based emulator, which is likely what you're using for every system, essentially uses the same button mapping. Nothing should be reversed.

Ok cool
When I first used it. The nes and snes were backwards
For nes on Mario the a and b were switched
