Trump has easily been the most divisive President in my life time by a wide margin. He easily far worse than Obama/Bush and they had the country pretty divided.

The campaign rhetoric and his lack of optics are making it hard for people to even give him a chance.

I think it's a product of the political climate in which he took office. The severe divisiveness started when W became POTUS after a Sup. Ct ruling. The divide really started to open wide under Obama. It's reached critical mass under Trump, but he was by no means the start of it. The division would be there even if HRC had won. The only difference is she would have had the media telling us how great she is vs how they cover Trump.

The dvisiveness is a matter of perception being flamed by the media, Hollywood, social media, et al

It has been going downhill since Clinton was first elected....the rhetoric aimed at the left on talk radio started it and both sides got in on the act....and if we continue to fall for it we are fricked.

If you read the increase in the number of posts just to these boards where people are openly advocating for violence against people who disagree with them politically....and the same is going on on leftists boards....we are in serious trouble as a nation. If we, the people, don't stop we are going to cross a line sooner rather than later which we can't re-cross and the American experiment will be over and all we will be is a cautionary tale used by totalitarian dictators about how the masses are unable to govern themselves.

I don't even thing a national catastrophe like 9/11 would bring us together today. The worst economy in 70+ years didn't do it as it has always done in the past....if anything it made matters worse. I sincerely think we have gotten to the point where it is too late....we are all too concerned with our own feelings and our own bank accounts to be concerned with the future and our nation. We are soft and self absorbed and the unbelievable comfort of our lives has left us wanting for something that we can only get within ourselves but we have forgotten how to find that when there isn't a credit card that can be used to get it.

I was in the redneck Riviera a few years ago on vacation staying at one of the few 'mom & pop" hotels on the beach left...and for a week I watched as adults spent a good portion of their vacation jockeying for position in the hotel parking lot....one of the friends we were with took great joy in the fact that on day 3 of 9 he saw a family leaving who was parked as close to the hotel as you can get and my friend sat in his SUV for nearly an hour, blocking the road, so he could get the spot when they vacated it....and then did not leave for the next 6 days!!!! This did not go unoticed by the other guests...I heard them talking about "that bastard hasn't moved that truck all week" .... and that made him HAPPY that he was impacting people's lives in this way. Meanwhile me and mine would park wherever we could and had a smile on our face every minute of the 9 days we were there....never even thought about it....but a large number or the people there were constantly keeping an eye on the parking lot in case someone left so they could improve their position....INA frickING PARKING LOT!!!!!

This isn't even going into the fist fight that broke out because some a-hole left his reciever mounted cargo carrier attached to his truck and snother a-hole almost ran into it....didn't but came with a few feet of it....
