This was my first thought after the episode. That and maybe one of Negan's guys spots Daryl and gets away.
Also, since we haven't seen Eugene, I think these sneaky guys that surrounded Rick and co. ambushed the truck leaving with Eugene in it and that's why Rick smiles.

***Spoilers for a Preview from The Talking Dead below.
It showed Ezekial and the Saviors meeting. First the head of the Savior's group tells Ezekial that there isn't enough food there; then backtracks. Another Savior gets into it with Richard and they both pull guns on each other.
So it seems like something is going to happen and all in front of Ezekial for him to see.

Pretty sure the first preview looked like it was going to have a battle royal: Rick vs some spiked zombie.. to the death.

If it is on Talking Dead or officially posted by AMC, it should be fair game. People who get offended by content officially released by the show just need to stay away from threads about the show.

Was just playing it safe. Both were aired by AMC or Talking Dead. I've read a few of these threads but normally haven't posted in them. I know people get bent out of shape sometimes when you don't follow their threads rules.

Understandable. Other threads do it too. Like stay behind the play by play guy in the baseball threads. No spoilers there either. I've done the play by play though so I know how tough it can be.

random thoughts:
1) where's health? they haven't even mentioned his name since tara got back. carol goes to take a shite and the whole group sets out after her...tara comes back without heath and nobody even notices
2) who's watching judith? olivia's dead and gabriel's out doing whatever he's doing
3) rosita needs to chill out
4) cant wait to see eugene at the sanctuary
5) i went and ran my boat this weekend with 6 month old gas in it, it ran like shite and was full of water. we are now 2 years into the ZA...

Re-watching now. Everything Gabriel did was at gunpoint. We just didn't see the gunman or gunmen until they drove away.
The Heath thing is an interesting idea. Hard to see how the new person or people got the drop on Gabriel without him sounding an alarm unless they had some leverage when they showed up. And Heath is the only unaccounted for member from Alexandria.
And...
If it stays true to the comics, the aliens should show up in the next few episodes.

the title of this episode should have been Deus Ex Boatina. How fortunate for Rick and crew to stumble upon these guys.

My guess, Rick smiled at one of two things. Heath or someone he knows being part of the group.
Or some obvious sign that they are anti-saviors. Don't know what that could be outside of some literal sign or symbol.
