Who was greater, Chris Farley or John Candy?

Sitting here watching "Stripes" and was just wondering who was better.

Candy always played the born loser and Farley always played the spastic town idiot.

Candy in a landslide. I like Farley, he was hilarious in some movies.
Candy was on a another level though. He's one of the best ever in my book

Although Candy has the edge for overall body of work, Farley has one of the best moments in television history with the SNL skit Matt Foley when Christina Applegate was hosting. That whole bit is pure comical gold. "When your living in a van down by the river!"

They're not comparable. Candy was a great actor with humanity and nuance who had an affect on everyone he worked with. With respect to Farley, I think he could have been more but he knew people wanted him to just be fat, loud and silly.
