It's worth noting, that I don't agree with you in several aspects on this issue (ie. taking guys that will play RB and stashing them at a position they "also played and were recruited at", when the kid was vocal that he was going to X school to play Y position...), but I do think there is wiggle room along the OL... it's not as defined as say LB vs DB. Hell... even at DB, we have guys that could easily be grabbed as a CB or a S... or along the DL/LB corps, who defines whether that DE out of HS is a DE or an OLB... There is gray area here, but to explicitly grab only OTs without any concern for whether they have or might play interior is a little disingenuous as well. In my case, I tried to point out guys that while some services have them listed as OTs, why they very likely will be on the interior at the next level.

I would argue any "concern" for what position along the line they play is a shot in the dark guess if its based on anything more than depth chart.

And based on depth chart my first OL pick, Micah Clark is likely to play guard since Rutgers graduates both guards and returns both tackles. That said even if it was the opposite I still would of picked him. Realistically the odds of him playing as a freshman are slim anyway so even prejecting on depth chart is futile.

Micah Clark

True. One article has him projected to a shite load of positions:

The question is: What position will he play?
There is a reason why Clark was the most highly-coveted player in the state. He is so versatile he projects to a number of positions, including offensive guard, offensive tackle, center, defensive three technique, five technique and tight end.

If you look hard enough, most OL will project to multiple positions anyways, regardless of whether the Recruiting sites indicate it or not.

ETA: I'm not sure I buy he's a TE... but

ETA2: While we're on the subject, the article pretty much hits on exactly what we've been discussing:
quote:

Coaches prefer to recruit linemen who can start out at tackle and kick inside to guard if tackle doesn't work out. And that's what Rutgers has with Vretman, who appears just athletic and technical enough to operate outside, yet probably projects best in a phone booth where he can utilize his brute strength, toughness and won't have to depend as much on mobility.
