My ex wife texted me last night. Told me she came across a knife that I had given her to put in her purse way back when we were dating. Said she wanted to get it back to me.

It was my deceased father's!

It's a 465 Puma Back Packer.

Puma are high quality German knives. Looks like your ex wife wasn't such a bitch after all.

Mt dad had a Puma, not that particular one, that he loved. Don't know what the Rockwell was on the steel but I remember him cussing it when he had to sharpen it. Once sharp it was "SHARP"...

I have a PUMA Scabbard knife,I found it in the toolbox of a Pick up I bought. Somebody had used a grinder or sander to sharpen it.Had the wheel marks pretty deep.
I worked on it a long time to get it right, but damn,it's a great knife.Fantastic blade.

I have a nice collection of their folders. Pretty inexpensive on eBay about fifteen years ago but the Solingen Germany originals have appreciated greatly.
The back packer and that line of knives with the green handles have the same quality of steel blades as the higher end lines with the wood or sambar stag handles. Look for the small ping on the blade which indicates it was Rockwell tested for a certain hardness. Also the originals and higher end have five number ids stamped on the lock release, blade or other area of the knife - it can tell you the year your knife was made.
The line with black handles were the bottom in so far as quality.
The pumas offered now are assembled in china and the quality difference is apparent.
If I knew how to post photos I would be happy to show some of my collection.

I don't know much about Puma's. I just remember that they always seemed expensive when I was a kid looking at knives. It's awesome that you're getting your Dad's knife back though.
