This will lead to more problems than it will solve in my opinion

This study was a joke. They literally went down a list themselves, and with zero expertise on the jobs, just checked a list on whether or not they thought they could be automated.

So when the day comes that most blue collar jobs are automated, what happens to the people? Do they just not have jobs? And I'm asking seriously. I don't know much about this issue. Obviously automation creates a safer and more productive work place. What happens to people with low education who rely in those types of jobs?

They will be better off than ever.

Jobs aren't ends, they are means. IOW, you don't work just to work. You work in order to gain purchasing power through the wages you earn. When things are produced more efficiently, which is what automation does, your purchasing power rises.

Now, people do lose their jobs w/ automation, but we are not unthinking beings that can't adjust to circumstances.....well, most of us.

Jobs we didn't even consider will open up in the economy and/or people will work a lot less, because people will be able to afford it.

Here's a little write up on it; LINK

Automation is not something new. It's been happening for decades.

Tractors, ATMs, logging equipment, sawmills, chicken pluckers, and the list is endless.

"Automation" is everywhere. But it creates a lot of jobs also.

I don't think the concern is over automation itself. It's that it is poised to happen at an ever increasing speed and that replacement opportunities for humans won't be either as quickly available or that new training for new skills won't be as widespread and available to create those new jobs at a pace that keeps up with technological advances.

That's just all unfounded predictions that no one can know. There are many jobs that people couldn't have imagined just 10 years ago.

(Social media manager? App developer? Smart phone repair technician?)

There are entire new careers being invented monthly.

Moral of the story: learn an actual skill.

That is a long sentence.

White collar too. You should research some of the programs that are under development. Doctors, accountants, lawyers. Nobody's safe.

Some professions are ok, but as it had been said numerous times in this thread, more will pop up in their place

I don't have any fear of it. We'll adapt but a lot of people believe that only low wage and factory jobs are threatened. Just pointing out that isn't the case

Humans are such lazy moochers. Time for the robot overlords to arise.

IMCO we're closer to replacing half of people who generally make tough decisions for a living than replacing half of fast food workers.

Algorithms are easier and cheaper to make than robots.

The real reason that so many leftists root for this robotic world is because they see an age of "basic income" and no need for human labor as a utopia. I overheard it buying coffee at my local hipster joint just the other day. The guy actually said, "That's the dream. Then we are free to live our lives traveling and enjoying ourselves. Not working."

Many long for a day where you don't have to have talent, ability, skills, or work ethic. They are going to be sadly mistaken that that day ain't coming anytime soon. So, set your alarms and put on your Starbucks aprons.
