I'm in the Costa group, they are great for sight casting reds in the marsh. I really like the colors they bring out in trees when driving also. I find if I pay a hundred bucks for a pair of glasses I'm more careful with them, I have my current pair for 7 years now without a scratch on the lenses

That's how I feel too, but I also have a two year old, so.....
I've found that the cheaper glasses work just fine, but I haven't compared them side to side to see if there is a difference in the quality of lenses

How big of difference is there in the quality of vision in $30 glasses as opposed to the higher end glasses?
Theres a noticeable difference, but to me its less about that and more about the fact I get killer headaches with the cheapos when on the water all day. With Costas, I'm good.

Relax Francis. I say this same thing in every other costa thread. It's what I do.

I am in the same boat. Baby grabbed on to my costas and snapped the arm off.
I cant bring myself to get another pair because I feel like Im wearing a yeti sticker across my face.
I am going to check out the Maui Jims and a few other brands.
In the midst of this period of enlightenment and searching, I picked up a pair of tortoise ozark trails from walmarks for $10 to hold me over.

FWIW my dad switched to Maui Jims after having costas for a long long time and he likes them significantly more

You do realize if you send them back to Costa they will repair them for less than 65 dollars?

Sent some back for a snapped arm not long ago, 12 bucks. Shattered a lens and broke an arm on an old pair, think that was 80.

This is true, I have a 3 year old and two more a couple years older, mine were broke in half, they were replaced for the cost of shipping.
I don't own a yeti and I fish out of a 2000 16 foot Triton Skiff with now stickers but I appreciate good sun glasses

That is just one mans opinion though

I have some Maui Jim Breakwalls. They don't have rims and feel flimsy, but they're tough as hell actually. The guy I farm with wears a set of Costa's that are a very similar style to my Maui Jim. I wear mine probably twice as much as he wears his and he has to send his back every year or two because the lenses start to fracture and get cloudy.
Just my experience with Costa's. Never had a pair of the rimmed glasses.

I have these in the Blue lens, love them but not so sure in muddy water.

I have some Costas with silver polycarbonate that I use in murky water.

So which color lens performs best for brownish fresh water? Grey, green, brown, or none of the above?

quote:Green IMHO. But amber/grey seem to do the same, but I like the green mirror better.

Best lens color is amber/copper for muddy water. The green is just the mirror exterior that helps.

One brand I haven't seen mentioned yet that are really good are Revos. They're definitely worth a look. I've had mine a couple years and really like them.

I own prescription pairs of Oakleys, Costas, and Maui Jims. They all do a good job with sight fishing. I prefer to use the Oakleys because the frame seems to block out sunlight better and I get very nervous when I use either the Costas or Maui Jim's!
For the Costas, I got the blackout frame color so the Costa symbol is the same color as the frame and not visible. Old money and all that, you know?

When I was a teenager, I bought Walmart and gas station sunglasses. Since they were cheap, it didn't bother me when I sat on them. Then, I had Lasik on my eyes and became more sensitive to bright light. That's when I bought my first pair of Polarized high dollar shades. I recently had to buy another pair, but bought some cheap Walmarts first. I found myself squinting with them on. So, back to sunglass hut I went and never regret it.
Although I haven't owned Costas, they have a cult following much like Yeti. So I don't know from experience if they are great or if they are the next Ray Ban (shite). Although I don't care for a lot of the styles they make, Oakley polarized line usually gets my money. They are high dollar, but I just threw a pair away that I had for 6 years.
