My point was that Calvin and especially Luther were 98.7% catholic. Their disagreements were more institutional than theological. Evangelicals reject basic theology held by essentially every Christian alive including the reformers until the 17th century, yet they always cite the reformation as a turning back to "traditional Biblical Christianity".

Traditional Christianity is Catholicism/Orthodox, no way around it. Every notable Christian for over 1500 years believed what Catholics believe, including most of the reformers.

I wasn't trying to turn this into a religious debate thread so let's not go down that road before it gets wacked.

I really was just curious what the Trump supporters here thought of character and leadership ability attacks like this coming from a pastor vs say a John Lewis or a celebrity.

Should Trump fire up the Twitter defense?

I think I understand what you mean. And I agree to an extent. That being said, I think the Catholic Church today has adjusted a lot for the better (no absolutions) or worse (priests diddling kids.)

But there are certain rejections that you're referring to that I think aren't in modern Christianity for a reason.

Would probably be a better conversation over beer if you'd ever not be an arse and go grab beer with me.
