Sixers looking to pursue Holiday in FA

I apologize if this was already brought up in another thread but according to the Lowe Post podcast the Sixers are looking to pursue Jrue this offseason and have the cap space to do it.
I'm on my phone so can't link but according to the article the Pels are fearful that he'll bolt. Doing so in their eyes would make them even more fearful that AD will be become questionable about his future here (if he's not already). He even says that AD "will do everything he can to keep him here."
He (Lowe) also insinuated that they (the Pels) could look to move Jrue prior to the deadline but most likely hang on to him and hope to resign him.
If AD wants to keep Jrue around I think you do what you can to appease your superstar, short sighted or not. However if you have a strong indication he's not going to stay deal him now and get SOMETHING in return. Don't want another Gordon or Ryno situation here.

What a shite show.
Either extend him now, or deal him for an asset/attach Asik to him.
"I have no confidence in this gasket, Jerry."

The tough thing is I think Jrue will be torn on re-signing because of AD and the investment the team made in him vs. wanting to play elsewhere. I think in the end he leaves and we get nothing, but he won't tell us that upfront and allow us to move him because he will hem and haw about that decision after we invested so much to bring him here, stuck with him through his injuries, and supported him with his wife.

I mean was there really a choice?

I'm sure this has been discussed, so please forgive me for asking as I don't post here much...
But what was the objective of resigning Asik and Ajinca?
Does the NBA have some sort of CBA that requires teams spend a minimum amount on player salaries and they had to ink those deals to become compliant?
There has to be a reason they committed so much money to two guys whose combined numbers this year are "DNP - Coach's Decision", right?

Ajinca looked like a semi-reliable end-of-bench big man when he first came over.. Then he started getting minutes and it was proven that we should have signed the robot from Rocky IV instead.
Wish we could have flipped him for an asset like we did with Ayon, then we could have traded the asset like we did Rynooooooo wait...

What are the deadlines on extending v the trade deadline?
There is no reason for management to see Jrue play out the year before deciding to re-sign him. He is healthy, and has been on the team for 3.5 years and with gentry for 1.5 years.
It's long past put up or shut up with Jrue. If you think he is a core piece, extend him now, if he waivers, you have your answer about this offseason and you send him packing.

With Asik it was AD not wanting to play center. With Ajinca it was Demps choosing the wrong reclamation project. Withey would have been cheaper to keep.

Yes, there is a salary floor, but that had nothing to do with the decision to resign Asik. Honestly with the situation they were in resigning Asik was probably the best play to make, but it should have just been a 2-3 year deal at most.

They thought what Asik did in Houston could translate to playing in Gentry's system. He was injured much of last year, he's actually been somewhat effective this year and many fans have surprisingly been asking for Asik to play more. But they've committed to small ball so he and Ajinca are riding the pine. The funny thing is the team was exploring trading for Dwight Howard a few weeks ago, so they still aren't convinced that AD is a full time center.

He's not extending. Extensions under the current rules are worthless. That got fixed in the upcoming CBA but that won't be in effect until next year.

Well if he isn't extending trade his arse today

Crap.
I f'ing hate Fletch...but "hope is not a plan"...Dell needs to control what he can control, and that means dealing Jrue for assets now.

This. New CBA doesn't take effect until July 1st. We won't extend him and his agent won't let him give us anything concrete before the trade deadline. I just don't see anyway Jrue stays unless it is a significant overpay by us. I think SAC and LAL will push hard for him.

I don't find this to be so. They could have made enough space to sign Bioyombo. Asik + Gentry never made any sense. Then you pile on the $$$ and years. Dell backed himself into a corner where he could only sign Asik at C, giving Asik all the leverage and Dell got taken to the cleaners.

Seems like Dell should be able to read these tea leaves, no?

Didn't with Ryno.

AD's quote made me think he'd be ok with trading him. Not that he'd want it, but he didn't sound very certain Holiday would return.
One of the reasons I didn't think they'd trade Holiday was how do you sell that to Davis? If he's iffy on Holiday returning then saying Holiday might walk is pretty good reason to trade him. They just can't trade him for a pick and tank. They at least need to get a usable player back.

Holiday is less so. He hasn't thought about free agency yet -- "not even a little bit," he said. The team is worried he will walk, and that his departure will leave Davis frustrated about the franchise's direction. "I'm gonna do everything in my power to keep him here," Davis said, "but it's a business decision, and he's a grown man with a family."

Do whatever possible to trade Jrue/Reke/Ajinca/Asik/and even Moore for expirings and/or draft picks.
DO NOT GIVE UP A FIRST TO DO ANY OF THIS, and then tank.
It would be nice to tank, have the 6th pick in the draft again, have something like the 20th pick, and then the two in the 30's. I still say we could get a pick from Chicago for Jrue. They either need to updgrade, and get someone like Jrue, or start trading away assets to get more draft picks.
Get Otto Porter Jr in FA, draft a PG with the 6th pick, center with the 20th pick, look for whoever has the most upside with the two 2nd round picks, regardless of position, like Blossomgame from Clemson SF or Justin Jackson from UNC SF.
