The premise is to allow the poor in inner cities and rural areas where healthy food alternatives aren't available to escape these "food deserts", as they've been termed.

quote:

It’s all part of the president’s longtime goal to eradicate what he and the First Lady call an epidemic of “food insecurity” among the nation’s low-income residents. Part of the problem is that this demographic has limited access to healthy food choices, the administration says, and the government must provide them with nutritional options.

SNAP cost American taxpayers and eye-popping $70 billion, according to government figures.

So do they pay sales tax also now?

Would that be like a double negative? Tax on the already taxed money?

I'm just curious as to whether they get a government subsidized Amazon Prime membership. If not, is the government paying shipping?

bullshite. Any assortment of rice, beans, greens, and meat can be found at almost any grocery. Sometimes the poor neighborhoods even have the best of it at lower cost.

It's 100% laziness. Go look at your typical grocery kart at Wal Mart. These people want no part of healthy food.

Amazon is also taking steps to provide more flexibility for lower-income consumers, such as offering a monthly $10.99 payment plan for Prime.

eta
I thought Prime was 99.00 / year
10.99 x 12 months = 131.88

Program is intended for inner city and rural residents but Amazon does not deliver fresh fruit and veggies in rural markets.

It is more per month because it is paid monthly versus annually.

I think the foods given out to SNAP folks should be all given the same basic items. Follow the government's own food pyramid as a guide and distribute food accordingly.
Hell, even make up goodie bags with all the food pyramid foods in it and hand it to them in a special checkout counter.

Isn't that how they used to do it? I thought that's where the term "government cheese" came from.
