Never. Look at the resale value. Tacoma holds 82% of its initial cost at 60 months.

If you are the type to drive until it's wheels fall off, then the Tacoma. It's proven to last 300,000 miles.

If you are the type that likes to pay off a car, then down the line trade it in and get a new one. Tacoma again. My 2007 Tacoma has depreciated a whopping $1500 in the five years I have owned it, while generating a tax write off of around $7k a year .

If you are one who likes a new vehicle every 3 years or so, get the Canyon, Colorado because as new trucks, they are better in most ways you can measure. Nicer interiors, more comfortable, more options. It's the long run.

When I got my truck, my buddy got a 06 King Ranch. He has changed the Transmission, the heater core, the AC evaporator, the alternator, the power steering pump, the Sunroof, the radiator and a few lines and electrical parts.
In the same time frame, I changed U-joints, and the oil.

The build quality of the Tacoma is outstanding. As a shade tree mechanic, it's been boring having a vehicle that never breaks down.

How is this even possible

Edit- it's not possible, I just looked it up and Tacoma's on average are worth about 61% of original value after 5 years, which is #1 amongst all cars. The GMC Canyon holds its value pretty well also.
