Virgin Islands Resorts

Looking to do a trip to the USVI in July. Would like to stay on St John more than likely. The couple we are going with want to stay at caneel bay as they went there for honeymoon. For me it seems really expensive for what it is, seems like a resort from the 80s and doesn't have any luxuries especially for 4500 plus food.
Any other places y'all recommend? Maybe some cool places other than the Virgin Islands? I did like the look of the caves in Jamaica.

Just VRBO a private villa. You can even hire a chef each night for a combined price cheaper than Caneel.

Caneel Bay is a first class resort. That's what you're paying for. It is outstanding.
You can also stay at the Westin if you don't want to spend as much. It's nice but it's no Caneel Bay.
is all I can say to that one.

Back to these questions.
Jamaica is a shite hole compared to St. John. There's no comparison.
St. John is tough to beat because of its' proximity to the BVI. You can day trip on a boat or take the ferry out to Jost Van Dyke or Tortola. Virgin Gorda and Adegada are within reach and are a great experience and if you like bars then Jost or the Willie T at Norman Island are excellent choices.
Depending on what you want to do there are other choices but the good islands are expensive. St. Kitts is awesome but the beaches aren't great. However, the island makes up for it and Nevis is a short trip away.
Providenciales, TCI is also a great choice as the beaches are incredible and the restaurants are as well.
Anguilla is another one with great beaches and fine dining.
All the ones I listed are on the expensive side but you get nice clean islands with friendly native people and good food and times.

Stayed right down the road from Caneel Bay in July. It's beautiful. For the price, however, I would highly recommend a VRBO on St John. We stayed at Mampoo House (sorry, not tech savvy enough to put a link but you can Google Mampoo House). Could walk to 2 beaches and it is a frickin awesome location for St John - especially if you like privacy. Can still access Caneel Bay Resort on a daily basis if you really want to, but I recommend getting out and exploring the island(s).
While there, also highly recommend a day on Kekoa (catamaran sailboat) - they take care of you!

I've rented from here many times.
Rent a Jeep and rent the villa on Bordeaux Mountain. You will have fantastic views, be secluded from everyone, and have your own private pool.
