They have that Disney Princess Half Marathon during Mardi Gras this year. Not sure how that affects crowds.

The marathon actually runs from Thu-Sun prior to MG, so even though they don't greatly impact park crowds, most of the marathon crowds will have spent the week before MG there rather than the week of.

Wanted to bump this because ive done some more research and have narrowed it down to a few resorts.

What do y'all think of the Boardwalk Villas, Beach Villas, Caribbean Resorts?

those 3 are all in our price range and it says Beach and Boardwalk are walk able to Epcot and DHS. Thats a big deal. Also i read where these are more adult friendly and the wife and I like that because we would like to hang and grab a drink on the boardwalk, etc.

how is the bus/transportation system with these 3? thats also huge for us as we will be going to the Animal Kingdom and doing 2 days at MK.

TIA

If your dates are during F&W Festival, you need to book Boardwalk or Beaches immediately. We tried to rent DVC points at Boardwalk over a month ago for a studio this coming October and it was already full. We could have tried to waitlist but decided to do Baylake instead. If you are trying to rent DVC points at Boardwalk or Beaches during F&W you essentially have to book exactly when the 11 month window opens.

I've stayed at the Yacht Club and absolutely loved it. It's right next to the Beach Villas and shares the pool area. The convenience of being right there by Epcot is great, and being on the boardwalk is awesome also. If you like Epcot, you can't go wrong with one of these resorts.

I just booked our next vacation and will be staying at the Boardwalk Inn this time. We'll be there for Easter week and the Flower and Garden Festival is going on at Epcot during that time. I don't mind paying a little more for one of the boardwalk resorts.

You could probably get the Park Hopper and do Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom in the same day. Avatarland at AK is scheduled to be open by then. I went this past summer and didn't get everything done at Magic Kingdom that I wanted to do. I have never gone to Universal.

good stuff guys

i was researching some more before i booked our trip and noticed that on the dates we want to go, Nov 2-9th, the RunDisney half marathon run and dine is going on that weekend. Its a half marathon in the morning and then party at night at the food and wine festival in Epcot. They also said other mini races will be going on all weekend.

Would you avoid this or not worry about it? its really the only dates that work for us but im scared of the large crowds due to this.

I also wonder if any Christmas decorations will be up that early in the season?

I would still come that week but avoid Epcot on the weekend. F&W weekends are some of the biggest crowds for Epcot all year, the locals come out then. I would imagine you may have some decorations up but maybe not all of them. We have been the week after you are trying to go and most were up then.

ok thanks. I was thinking of the next week but my wife is a teacher and it would put her at 2 weeks off because when we would get back it would be the week off of thanksgiving.

she cant do that

ok, Davids DVC has Boardwalk villas for 1088 for deluxe studio for 6 nights. not bad

All the Christmas decorations should be up by the end of your trip. I say this because the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party should start on or near 7 November (that's when it started in 2016, and it started on 8 November in 2015). You'd have to check back closer to that time to see when the first party is. If it falls within your dates, then all the decorations should be up. I'm almost positive Disney World did the entire switch from Halloween to Christmas decorations last year on either 2 or 3 November (in one night).

The Food and Wine Festival will be crowded regardless, and sometimes insanely crowded. But it will still be a good time as long as you realize the crowds will be there. Don't let those crowds deter you.

If that is available right now, book it and don't look back. And I mean book it right now.

ok thanks. now trying to decide which week to go

week of Nov 2-9th or 9th-16th

pros for the Nov 2 week- Earlier in month, have plenty of time to get back in routine before the mad holiday season

pros for the Nov 9th week- avoid the RunDisney half marathon on the Nov 3rd weekend. All the Christmas lights and decorations will be up. Negative is that we would get back with only a few days to get house ready for Thanksgiving week

decisions, decisions. wonder what the crowd difference will be

Two years ago we did MK on Oct 31 and stayed 5 additional park days. We got to see the Halloween decorations and party on the 31st and then the christmas lights on our last day in MK. The F&W fest was also a bonus.

We almost always stay at Board walk Villas with an occasional stay at Beach Club. In my opinion, that location cannot be beat.

If the Christmas decorations are up from the 2-9th then I'll book that. The race crowd scares me but oh well. I think I'd rather have a buffer week until thanksgiving week

Race crowds really don't affect the parks, just resorts.

I would pick the first week if both weeks are available. I would book right now as that is a hot resort for that time frame

go the week of the 9th. I would avoid any, and I mean any special events. We were at Riverside one year during a UCA cheer event or something. Seemed like all the teams decided to stay there!!

looking at booking myself later this year

see some good deals online. anyone ever stayed at any of these?

Old Key West
Wilderness Lodge
Bay Tower- i like the idea of being closer to Disney Springs/Epcot, so this is my last choice

Also, aside from Davids DVC site, any other good sites to book resorts, or do you have to go through Disney?
