Anyone else try this place yet?

i order through waitr last night. I will start off by saying the togo setup is legit. They give you a huge bowl to dump the broth in.

I had the steak pho which was pretty good. However, it just confirms that I am not into pho as much as some of the people around here are. Its good and flavorful but it never just blows me away like it does to some of yall.

I would recommend it and will eat it again though.

Pretty standard Vietnamese place. I've enjoyed it the few times I've been. Nothing exceptional, but will definitely continue going.

Couple of threads have popped up since they opened. Neither really got any traction:

I really enjoyed the pho. The best part about the place is the location. The bird's nest was interesting. The spring rolls weren't very good.

If you think this place is good Vietnamese food, you have not eaten enough to know the difference. This place is equivalent to people liking buffet sushi boasting to people that they eat sushi.

I thought it was average, at best. I'll stick with Dangs.

Here is my review:

Let me start by saying that my wife and I frequent BR Vietnamese restaurants and Dang's holds the spot as #1 given their Pho and Banh Mi taste, service, and price. It's difficult for those in South BR to get good Vietnamese without going to Florida St (don't get me started on Drunken Fish) so it was exciting to see another choice on this side of town.

Decor and atmosphere were pleasant. They have a nice bar area and a larger seating area. We started by splitting the kimchi fries. They were average. The standard for best kimchi fries is still the Chilantro food truck in Houston. My take on these fries is that the "Cajun" fries as the layer is too strong of a taste and masks the more important flavors of kimchi/meat/etc. Don't get me wrong though...my wife and I cleaned the plate.

We then each ordered a grilled pork Banh Mi each and split a Pho bowl with flank steak and added meatballs.

Banh Mi's is where it's at. These are, in my opinion, the best in BR now. A better bread option (softer) and has more filling than the others in the area. My wife still likes Dangs better so it's close. The best way to describe it is it has a better bread-to-filling ratio and the bread is better than typical. The price is a little higher than what I am used to at Dangs though.

The Pho was average. Better than Drunken Fish but not as good as Dangs.

A few things that could help:
1. Get Hoisin sauce on the table.
2. Get deeper soup spoons
3. Don't charge us 75 cents for a side of fish sauce. That's absurd.
4. Have Vietnamese style coffee available (they ran out when we were there).
