Negative Basketball Posts

There is plenty you can criticize this basketball team about. I have my own list of things. But at least try to stick to facts and don't be so over the top about it. Some of the comments are just wrong.
1. Worst LSU basketball team ever. - This is so ridiculous why even bother to refute it. But since it was said. I have been watching basketball at LSU since the early 60's. So many worse teams than this. Try Trent's middle two years or how about the Tommy Thigpen, Brad Brian team that was the varsity when Pistol Pete played on the freshmen team. Everyone got up and left when the freshmen game was over.
2. We have a lazy team and it is because they take on the personality of the head coach - Really? Wow CJJ as the modern hypnotist/magician. And of course he uses this power to make his team play bad because that will mean a bonus at the end of the year.
3. CJJ never calls timeouts - Well he must be reading your posts because he took several tonight.
4. CJJ never holds players responsible for poor play - He has pulled several players this year and he gets criticized for that. Blakeney's was because of ineffective defense. Mays for several bad turnovers, etc. Perhaps he should just bench the entire starting team and start all bench players against Charleston. I'm sure no one would think that was wrong, LOL!
5. Hayward didn't look good on defense - Actually he did good in the first half, had a steal, kept his hands up and hustled . Second half he did lose his man a few times on picks but that was the case for the whole team for the whole game.
This time last year we were 5-4 and this year we are 7-2. If we can get a winning record in SEC games it will be a successful year despite what you negative posters think. At this time last year everyone thought we would be a terrible team. We have been picked to finish 12th out of 14 teams in the SEC. We will do much better than that. The main problem with this team is consistency.

The facts are Johnny Jones should have never been hired.
You can't dispute that. His record at North Texas didn't warrant a hiring. He got the job because, he's one of us.

How bout his idiotic philosophy of benching all players once they get 2 fouls, saving them for 2H, even when the team goes from down 8, to down 15, to down 20...
He is one of the worst in game coaches in D-1A.

Victor is pretty fuvking good, when he wants to play. and #1 (I'm afraid) will save JJ'S job.
ETA: How in the hell do we have worst FT shooting in the SEC? That's coaching!!!! no excuse. Before the game the other team pretty much says I'm going to give you a free 15-20 points tonight. LSU says thanks, but on average we will take 7-12. no excuse.

This team is a Poor Rebounding, Poor Defensive and Poor on Fundamentals team. And you want to point out its winning record this year compared to last year, well what are the records of the teams they've faced and what's LSU strength of schedule ranking? Jones has been here long enough and to be playing a shite non-conference schedule like he has this year is an insult.

No matter the coach or the sport, I always support them if they are wearing purple and gold. I give them the benefit of the doubt longer than most, and stay positive even when it gets bad. I would be a horrible athletic director, but thankfully my chemistry education at LSU has given me means to not apply for that job lol.
That being said, I shake my head during games. I cannot believe the product on the floor. Like someone said, when february rolls around and the actual attendance is less than 2000, alleva might get the message

This will probably get whacked but we have Southland/SWAC talent level other then Blankly on the team. Kentucky is going to skill frick us. Jones scheduling all this cupcakes and they almost beat us... well next week there will be no more hiding behind cupcakes... prepare your anus

I completely agree OP. These basketball post have gotten out of hand and are more miserable than football season. People make this site miserable.
Oh and to add to your list. Someone tried saying we have the talent of a swac or Southland school. We have sec talent. For sure. Still really young and suspect coach. Talent not problem

While I agree that many posters go overboard in criticism, I think that there is a frustration in the status quo being expressed.
None of Jones teams at LSU have been excellent defensive teams. There is a lack of cohesion, help, and toughness on the defensive end. Players are often out of position. I could go on.
We rebound with inconsistent effort and use athleticism only. Last night was a good example of the lack of blocking out. We gave up 15 offensive rebounds. Many times the opposing player flew in unopposed to the basket for a put back.
Based on what I've seen from Jones teams, I don't think we'll sink to the lows of Johnson (I hope not), but wonder if he will ever get an LSU team back to the NCAA tourney. I certainly don't see one on the court so far this year.

In the fifth year of building a program, the bar for success should be just a wee bit higher than this.

And we were.

Who knows? When expectations are this low, it's hard not to exceed them. When a coach exceeds ridiculously low expectations, especially this far into his tenure, it's to his discredit that expectations were so low, not to his credit that he managed to outperform them.

This team has far too many problems for any one of them to be considered the "main" one.

Switch coaches from this last game & LSU wins by 20.

1) agree.
2) Teams do take on the personality of their coach.
3) Last night he did. Only took 5 years.
4) Inconsistent.
5) agree.
I like some of the players on the team. Jones is a huge liability. "Act like you are playing defense. "

Two worse teams projected in the SEC? Do they only have four active players or are they coached by Trent Johnson?
Posted on 12/18/16 at 10:33 am to Tom Bronco
Probably finish 4th or 5th in the sec. Will maybe be a bubble team.

This team shows signs of being a good team then they go on defense.

When the damn Gymnastics team is more exciting to watch than the basketball team, I say there is a problem. When the damn Gymnastics team will have more fans in the seats than the basketball team, I say there is a damn problem.
In YEAR 5, this should not happen.

If you have an AD that won't spend the money for a high profile coach because he really doesn't care for the basketball program, it makes it really hard to build a high profile basketball program such as the Dale Brown era.... makes it also hard to recruit top notch players from around the country against other top programs such as Kentucky, Duke, etc.... you need a big name coach to bring in the big name players...
