Any speculation as to whom these would be?

#LSU makes it official announcing #Pitt OC Matt Canada as its new OC. Canada turned down 3 other Power5 OC jobs in past 48 hrs, per source.

From Canada's perspective, it makes sense to choose the LSU job over others, including Bama. SEC. Great gig for player talent and recruiting. Bama offense already closer to its ceiling. Pretty free reign over the offense. LSU pays assisants top $. Great facilities, fan support, etc. Why go somewhere else?

It's definitely the best place for him to go to see if he can get his name thrown into the mix if he has plans of moving up the coaching ladder. If he turns LSU's offense into anything worth a shite in the next few years he will definitely have to up his agent game.

I wonder if he turned down the Western Kentucky HC job as well. The timing of that hire is interesting. Also their choice is much more questionable than Canada. Maybe in his mind, three years of high level success here gets him a much bigger gig:

He hasn't interviewed with or received an offer from Bama, yet now he's turned them down? OK.

So returning 4 of 5 olinemen, your top 3 rushers, top 2 WRs, and your all SEC QB won't result in any growth next year?

Please don't take the LORDS name in vain.

I have no idea, tbh. Unless Saban already has options he'd be happy with, I tend to think Saban might have some serious interest in him. Canada looks to be a dang good OC, imo.

I didn't say he had. It's not inconceivable that Canada and Saban might have talked on the phone. I pointed out reasons why Canada might prefer the LSU job to other options, including Bama. Bama does have an open OC job.

I didn't even imply that. I expect Bama's offense to be considerably better next season, especially Hurts' passing game.

Would be strange if he turned Bama down out of hand. But you never know.

He may have wanted more of a free hand (there was a quote to that effect on the board a while back anyway) and Saban seems pretty demanding/controlling.

Or maybe he just wants to take a shot at the best going up against Saban's defense. I don't think Saban is close to being the aging gunfighter whom all the young studs come to make a name against quite yet. But I'm sure there are some who want to challenge themselves against the top.

It's possible I suppose. If he visited Bama, interviewed and received a outright offer for the job, it's pretty hard to believe all of that happened without any sort of leaks about it.

Doesn't matter to me, tbh. I'm confident Coach Saban can and will make a very good OC hire.

I'm not an LSU hater. I'm glad LSU hired a good OC. It's good for the SEC and I like highly competitive fb games.

Get out immediately and leave us to our fear and self loathing damnit!

Agreed. And I've been as anti-O as anyone but I am excited about the hire.
