Why does fun need to result in that type of reaction for certain subsets of society?
What subset is that? People who get into their dream school, which happens to have a low acceptance rate, prestige, and is in awesome college town?

Seems like an ideal subset.

People act like that when LSU scores a touchdown. Their child just got into the fricking ivy league, let them have fun.

Solid retort!

Yeah, it's a huge deal. The hardest part is getting in. Attrition is low. You are rubbing elbows with people who will one day run the country. Your child is basically all but set. I would be crying.

Congrats to the kid! Some of you guys. Maybe this kid can be an example for minority students. They need all the role models they can get

I'd rather see these videos than some kids who's parading himself in front of cameras to declare where he's going to take his football talents.

Not that that's not a big moment in a kid's life, but celebrating the intellectuals of our socioeconomically disadvantaged citizens--black, white or otherwise--should be more common.

I don't think you know how much tuition costs at the service academies

Attending one of these fine schools isn't exactly "free".

More importantly, can he throw a football?

Why is this any more significant than the other 5k people who got accepted this year?

Just admit you posted this for another reason.

Also, 19k is not a viral video.

Because this is a video of a Louisiana student?

A real UM alumnus would understand why it's a big deal for a low-income kid from fricking Opelousas, Louisiana to get accepted into an Ivy.

I think all Ivy League colleges give full ride scholarships (tuition, room, and board) for kids whose parents make less than $60,000 per year.

Agreed. If you're going to be critical of certain subcultures for being, well, low-brow, then you should praise them for being joyous about attaining something pertinent to higher culture.

A kid born into the muck and surrounded by corruption and poverty works hard and is accepted to one the premier universities in the world...and is ultimately criticized and shamed!

This website is something else.
