My regular is the guy in the Albertson's parking lot on Government St. He always said he was homeless and needed money for his diabetes medication. He was the cleanest smelling homeless guy I ever met. I would refer him to St. Vincent de Paul a couple miles away for his medicine and a place to stay. Now that my kids are out of Country Day on North Blvd. I don't go to that Albertson's very often so haven't seen him in a while.

I don't know if it's the same guy or not but there's always the same dude in that parking lot with his sob story. I saw him down the street at the cracker barrel buying himself and his buddy a beer. They buy beer and sit behind the dumpster and drink.

I've had a few beggars in my life ask me to buy them a beer in the gas station and I've done that.

Won't give out money though.

To me this makes the story even more unbelievable. Who the frick carries a small gas can around in their car?

When I was in my early 20s, I had a buddy who had a POS truck and the gas gauge didn't work. So he carried a gas can around (with gas in it, mind you), just in case. I was with him one night and we ran out of gas on top of the bridge. Thank God we were on the down slope. Coasted all the way to the Chevron in Port Allen. This, by the way, is the incident that started him carrying around the gas can. I had forgotten that story. Good times. Thanks OT.

Similar thing happened to me once, but I didn't have any cash. I bought him a high life tall boy since I was buying beer anyway. Dude was unbelievably thankful and told me to have a blessed night haha.

No it's an older black guy. Last time he asked me for money I saw him coming so I tried to hurry up and put my shite in the truck. I opened my back door and my fricking laptop fell off my backseat and smashed on the ground. This dude helped me pick the pieces up and said "I hope it's not broke. Hey man can you help a fella that's down on his luck blah blah blah" I laughed and said no

If someone actually did this to me, I would bite. Otherwise, I stand by my usual, don't give anything to anyone.

Has anyone seen the guy around OLOL (at the light) that just walks up to cars and doesn't say anything? Either has a cup or just puts his hand out? Not sure what is going on there. Saw him out there today, actually.

I was feeling generous the other day and gave a bum a dollar and a root beer at the gas station after I saw him solicit someone else. He looked really confused that he hadn't asked me.

I think he didn't know what to do so launched into this crazy spiel about water removing all the minerals from your body.

[quote]"Nip it in the bud" technique is my go-to. If I'm alone, my tone is calm but firm. If I'm with my kids, my tone is a bit more aggressive. It's very effective for bums, solicitors and scam artists who approach you in public places.

That is my exact approach. If my kid is with me my standard retort is "Man don't make me embarrass you in front of my kid.." They always walk away.
