I thought the Poli board would find this interesting.

My wife is applying to a PhD program at The University of Colorado... Here's the University's requirement to receive In-State tuition:

quote:

In-state tuition eligibility requires one year of Colorado domicile (legal residence). Exceptions to the one year requirement are provided for: honorably-discharged members of the U.S. armed forces moving permanently to Colorado; active-duty military; Colorado National Guard members; children of faculty members at state-supported colleges; U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents and undocumented applicants who attended 3 years of high school in Colorado immediately prior to enrollment; and employees of companies moving to Colorado with State economic incentives.

How does that even work?

Undocumented residents have a 3 year requirement vs 1 year or less for everyone else.

No, they'll be paying her to do research for them. That's just their generic statement prior to beginning the application process. There wasn't any differentiating between undergrad/grad at that point.

"undocumented" students get FASFA? I bet they do and if so it wont be hard to get into any college.

Undocumented residents shouldn't have any requirements, they should get their illegal asses out of this country. Ridiculous that they can get in state tuition, FASFA, don't pay taxes, & countless other shite while I have to pay thousands of dollars (even after scholarships) to go to school

They're illegal aliens no matter what leftist sugar coated term liberals want to use.

How about they spend those years working on a proper visa?

The entire reason they ARE accepted is the money. Same with the public education systems starting at pre-K and going forward through PHd programs.

Schools get paid by the average number of seats filled per classroom day, period, end of discussion. It matters not on the paperwork WHO it is filling those seats.

This is why the Truancy laws are more aggressively enforced than the immigration laws!!!

Follow the money!

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it'll still be a pig. They are illegal and the only thing they should get for free is a one way ticket back to the shite hole they came from with along with a nice application for citizenship. Take a number n back of the line. Like everyone else.

There is no federal money available for undocumented students. No federally funded grants, loans, or work study.

This is an in-state tuition qualification.

Also. A lot of these kids have spent their whole lives here. They didn't choose to come to this country illegally; their parents did.

You are assuming that all of these universities don't get any federal grants?

So these adults, not kids.... Kids don't go to college. Adults do.... Are here illegally, some since they were 2 or 3 or whatever. So, why haven't they seeked out becoming a legal citizen since being here? They are obviously smart enough to apply and navigate college and financial aid applications, so surely a citizenship application can't be too darn gone hard, right? After all, they are smart enough to get into college....unless.... Becoming a legal citizen would be detrimental to their current way of life as they will become providers instead of receivers?

No. They get federal grants. They just can't allocate them to undocumented students.

A 17-year-old should seek citizenship and expose his mom to possible deportation? That's a tough one for a kid.

I'll ask again- if my parents steal something and give it to me, do I get to keep it?
