The Heights would be the only place I would move to in Houston.
I'm guessing you have visited a friend once or twice over a weekend that lives in The Heights. There are plenty of good areas beyond The Heights.

Not a damn thing. Great place to live

Any suggestions on where to live within the beltway? Early 30s not big on the whole bar scene.
Sure. I have suggestions.
See how vague I can be, too?

Some hate it because it is too Disney-fied. It is basically too planned, if that makes sense. And you can't see any fricking street signs, which is aggravating. It's a fine place to live if you like cookie cutter living, a growing population, decent restaurants, and decent schools, but the commute to Houston is abysmal. I wouldn't live there unless I worked there or very close by.

I'm looking as well but need to be fairly close to a small airport like David Wayne Hooks or West Houston,
I live less than a mile from the West Houston airport off of Barker Cypress. I love this area but the Katy ISD property taxes arent cheap.

Montrose (if you like trolling for penis and such)
The Montrose has a lot of homosexuals in its vicinity, but that is a great place to live. If you don't mind gay people, which you shouldn't, and you have the money, the Montrose is fantastic. I would live there in a heartbeat if I had the money.

Spring or Tomball would be best bets for being close to Hooks. Grew up in Spring and dad has a Cessna in a hangar out there
Nothing wrong with woodlands, although I would imagine there's probably another small airport around there. May want to check out some neighborhoods off Kuykendahl kind've southwest of the woodlands in the area around Klein Oak HS. Wouldn't be far at all from Hooks and you're still really close to Woodlands

sky rocketing rent/housing prices
My friend just moved back to Nola from Houston. Bought a new house in the Heights for 320 5 years ago and sold it for 500k 2 months ago. Even with the Houston economy in the shitter.

Real Estate is chilling out some, but prices are holding steady.
I would just rent right now if you are new to the city, with that said the wife and I just got a new place, so we will see how this plays out.

Seems like you get a lot more house outside the loop for the same money

that is correct.

Absolutely you do. Plenty of stuff to do outside the loop as well. I like having a bigger house and yard and either driving or ubering to the heights or midtown if I want to go out. Some people prefer the opposite. All preference.

We will be just outside the loop for that reason. We both have hobbies that require a decent amount of space, so we needed to get that extra square footage.
Also one story houses are nice.

Hooks is less than 10-15 mins from me. From the woodlands, thanks to grand pkwy, you can get there in 20. Nothing wrong with the woodlands IMO. Traffic blows on 45 but you can learn the back roads such as Gosling and be money. Never go west on 1488 after work hours.

I've been to Houston. It's terrible.

Houston Executive is further west than West Houston. There are a lot of new developments popping up out west.
