I know this is a division team but what about Sonny Gray? I believe we could get him for cheaper than archer or Quintana and I believe 2016 Gray was a fluke. I don't see him being that bad again

Thought about that the other day. We've traded with Oakland recently so I don't think that'd be an issue, I just doubt they want to deal him when his value is at it's lowest

I'm starting to strongly believe we aren't going to be making any big moves for a pitcher

I think the Sox deal Quintana too. You don't just go selling half assed, you go full throttle. We should be inquiring about him before moving to Tampy Bay options, IMO.

My deep sleeper SP trade: Teherán

Nationals missed out on Sale, I don't think they let Quintana get away if he becomes available.

I wish their Sale deal would have worked.

Gonna need a high profile injury in Boston to get by them.

When I heard about the trade, I initially thought Jackie Bradley Jr would have been included. I think the ChiSox should have asked for an additional farm arm.

Yeah Nats are exactly who came to mind for Quintana. Curious to know if they can pull off a Cutch trade as well or if it's just one they've gotta decide between. If they don't get any bullpen help I would bet they try hard for a big Quintana/Robertson deal with ChiSox

And List, at the end of last season I definitely thought Teheran would be a name mentioned with us a lot, but it really seems (based on their offseason so far) like Atlanta doesn't want to be super shitty in their first season of the new stadium.

I think their expectation/hope is maybe a 75-80 win season while this is the last year of their "rebuild". Could see them having a 2018 season similar to our 2015.

That's just my opinion while admittedly not knowing a whole lot about them, prob be better off dropping in the ATL thread for some better perspective

I agree with that.

Breaking: Gomez gets 11.5MM from Arlington.

McCann and Astros get him 19 times next year. :)

A day after trading Chris Sale to the Red Sox, the White Sox are now “in serious talks” with multiple teams about their other star left-hander Jose Quintana, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports (Twitter link). The Astros and Nationals are two of the clubs involved in discussions.

The Astros were rumored to have interest in Sale, but Houston’s refusal to include Alex Bregman in any trade likely removed them from the bidding, given how Chicago was looking for only elite prospects for Sale (like maybe the game’s best prospect in Yoan Moncada). The White Sox undoubtedly want quite a bit for Quintana as well, though their demands could be closer to the Astros’ comfort zone.

I wonder if Tucker, Paulino, Reed and Riley Ferrell could get it done. I would be very happy if we got Quintana as I think many others would be

I think we'll have to give up Martes and damn I really don't want to. He's gonna be a good one.

I really don't want to either but I would be fine with it for Quintana. Giving up both Martes and Paulino would hurt but that seems pricey compared what they got from Boston, unless there isn't a top position player in the deal.

I think you an rest assured that it will include either Fiers or McHugh and Martes.

With Chicago trading away 2 starters, they will need someone to come in and eat innings- most likely Fiers.

Martes will headline the package, probably with older Tucker, Reed, and one of the big names in A-ball. But the WS need an innings eater, so expect to say goodbye to one of those two guys. Personally, I like McHugh more. just because he has a more interesting story of how he became an Astro.

ETA: now, if the Astros came back and said, "we want springer, Fiers, Martes, Reed, and older Tucker... You get Quintana and Robertson."

I'm going to think hard about taking that deal.

Who do you mean by big names in A ball? Like a Kyle Tucker and Daz Cameron or one of the Cubans like Sierra?

I would do Martes, Fiers, Reed, Preston Tucker and Sierra for Quintana in a heartbeat but that seems very light.

The hole you create in the OF that you would have to fill isn't really offset by Robertson at all. I think that makes the big league club worse for next year unless you're spending more money on someone like Fowler. Aside from a LH reliever the bullpen should not be a priority. Go after a high leverage arm at the deadline if it's needed.
