The Astros are going to have to have some players have Career-Peak seasons for them to compete with the career-average playing Red Sox.

The Astros aren't really competing with the Red Sox, they would just need to beat them in a 5 or 7 game series. We also haven't scratched the surface of what a career year looks like for Correa or Bregman, and there's room left for Springer to improve as well.

Lets not discount Altuve, that guy finds ways to improve every off season.

Apparently he is moving to 1B as well

Edit: Wonder if the Astros would go in for EE on 3 year deal at 70 million

Unless Luhnow is trying to pull something sneaky, all indications have been that we won't be signing EE.

I don't recall -- what kind of publicity was there prior to the Reddick signing?

ETA: I expect the Rangers to be all-in on the EE train. They just picked up a draft pick from the Rox... can afford to lose one by signing EE.

AJ Hinch has said we probably aren't going to sign him. McTaggart constantly was saying they aren't going to sign him because they were focused on Beltran. Crane has said the big moves are probably over. Luhnow has said they identified their targets early in the offseason and went to work to acquire them.

Comparing Edwin's situation to Reddick doesn't make sense. Reddick was a target from the start.

Relax. I'm not comparing... I was out of the country for two weeks and came back the day after they signed Reddick... I typically don't get to following things too closely when I'm in the Middle East. I genuinely didn't know what kind of publicity/rumors were out regarding Reddick.

I don't know if the Rockies are dumb or if they made a good move. But damn, good job outta you, Ian Desmond.

Steve Phillips was on Mad Dog's radio show yesterday just destroying Encarnacion and Bautista and their agents echoing what a lot of you guys have said about misplaying the market. He also felt that the players got next to nothing in the CBA -- basically some foreign player draft terms that look good in name that were undercut by what is effectively a cap on them, I believe.

It was literally nothing. The McCann trade was reported by Kaplan after the talks had allegedly "gone cold" a couple days before. Then two hours later Rosenthal tweets we are signing Reddick after virtually no previous rumors linking Reddick to any team.

I'm totally down to give Edwin that 3/$60 contract that no team wants to give him

It seems like a lot to have him play 1B, not sure if they're just posturing to try to trade Blackmon though

Would do it in a heartbeat. He's vastly underrated and under control for 4 more years.
