Didn't Kevin Steele, whom all melted because we hired him, take a lateral last year? How bout chief? This isn't unprecedented.
Steele's situation is unique in that most LSU fans at the time said that he was asked to look for a new job. Also, he only needs like 3 years (this one and 2 more) to be vested in the Alabama state retirement system, so going to AU made sense for him.
Chief saw what was going down with LSU and Miles. He's on record saying he saw same thing coming with UT and Fulmer. He left a bad situation to go somewhere else.

Pruitt couldn't keep his zipper up at FSU and pretty much had to make that move.
None of those are parallels with what you are hoping for with Kiffin.

How long would that staff stay together? Aranda and Kiffin as primed for HC jobs.

1) three excuses. Lets make stuff up as we go. Saban couldn't keep his zipper up at lsu with Candy Edwards, either. see, I can spew internet fodder too.
2) not hoping for Kiffin, he's not the only O.C. out there. Kiffin Just isn't a bama boy. He's a California boy with no ties to bama. Bama has no emotional pull for him. Now, Ogeron is an emotional pull to him. This is a fact. They are like brothers and been together for a long, long, time. You really think, in Kiffin's mind, he can't have success anywhere he goes? He has to stay at bama or he will fail? please.
3) you will never see that not everyone thinks bama is the only program and no coach could leave there and everyone wants to coach there. You are blinded by crimson. You are no different than the lsu fans thinking they can get anyone they want because we are lsu.

Kiffin isn't leaving Bama for another OC position. Why don't people get this? If he leaves it's for a HC spot and he will more than likely get that this offseason anyway.

3-0 at LSU. To be continued.
O has to win out before he should even get an interview for the full-time gig.

Apparently every game is our super bowl nowadays.

I don't know why everyone is scared of success. I guarantee you that all of those games would have been close ones with Miles, might have even lost to Ole Miss. It's not the wins, it's how we are winning that's making people think. And I'm sure there is a ton of behind the scenes stuff we're not privy to that is helping O make his claim.
Let it play out.

Truthfully, it's about hope man. When a team has a great recruiting class, it gives fans hope for future success. When they have coaching changes, it gives them hope it will be better than before.
Kiffin coming to LSU is something that would give LSU fans hope for a better offensive output and so they're clinging to the possibility of it happening, regardless of how remote that possibility is. Human nature, bruh.

I'm about as positive as they come, and feel LSU is as good as any school in the country.
But Kiffin to LSU is just purple and gold delusion.

Truth. Kiffin's next gig will be a HC job. Not working for one of his former assistants just because he knows where the bodies are buried.
This is a terrible idea and the people upstairs at LSU are idiots if they're putting any value in this. (not knocking Random, he does good work bringing the info here for us to tear apart.)
PS: i dont want Kiffin anywhere near this program. He's burned down every job he's ever had except Bama, and thats only because Saban keeps his thumb on him at all times. And even then he's had twitter fights and stupid stuff like that. Coach O would let him be a prima donna. He's a drama queen that can call plays. Hard pass for me. The only plus is that it would subtract from Bama.

I honestly hope they hire O, if for the only reason of watching all of the chicken little's commit ritual suicide on the boards.

Why do people state a temple coach needs another coaching gig before making a jump to a program like Lsu. Yet, They "ride4herman"? Same conference. temple coach 4 years, Herman 1.5. Makes total sense.

I won't panic afterwards. If he gets hired, the die will have been cast. Only thing left at that point is to hope for the best.

What does that have anything to do with what I said?

Leaving currently the best program in college football to coach the same position for any other team would be a downgrade.
I disagree. I'm not saying he's coming or not, but it isn't as simple as I'm the OC for the best program in the nation so any other OC position is a downgrade. Changing jobs is rarely that black and white.
- Alabama is Saban's team and people correctly view their success in a large part to be because of Saban's influence and the defense. The effect of this is that it minimizes the impact that Kiffin has on the success of the team. He may feel that coming to another school where his performance can be viewed as more instrumental to the success of the program better for his chances to secure another head coaching gig at a prestigious university.
- Saban can't be easy to work with and there have been some very visible signs of tension between the two. This is not a natural fit for either of them. The fact that it is working doesn't make it easy.
- Money. Yes Alabama can and will pay with anyone when they feel the candidate is worth it, but because of point 1 Alabama may not feel it is worth it to match an offer. Salaries are about ROI, and if Alabama feels it can get the same results with a different OC it won't get into a bidding war.
- On talent both teams are very similar. There aren't many schools in the nation that can say their talent is in the same class as Alabama's, but LSU can. Most season's I'd give the edge to Alabama, but it's usually close and some seasons like this one I think LSU is more talented.
What all of this essentially boils down to is that Kiffin is in Head Coaching Rehab. If he expects to lead a top level program again, he can either prove his capabilities at another location - one where his contributions are highlighted more and his arse chewings less - or he can coach a smaller program and work his way back up. I view it unlikely that he'd make a move directly from OC at Alabama to HC at top level program given his history. Had he never been a head coach before this would likely be different.
A move to LSU would also give him the opportunity to show that his offense could succeed against a Saban defense (assuming it did). If I'm hiring an offensive minded coach, and there is one available that has shown an ability to at least hold it's own against what is year in and year out the best defense in the nation he's probably at the top of my list. You don't get that opportunity at Alabama because you don't get the opportunity to play against a Nick Saban team.
