It was a terrible call and thus far coach Os biggest flaw is sometimes too much emotion....he needed someone to pump the brakes there.

take the outcome of that play out of the equation and it's still a questionable call.

It was not a questionable call at all, this is why or offense is unpredictable now and we are putting big numbers on the board.

After the offensive mind set we have lived with for years now why would anyone question this type of call. Put one more TD or a field goal on the board.

28 to 13 going into half would have been awesome.

Your theory goes with the mindset our last coach had with the forward pass and play action

Honestly, I think they were trying too hard to not be les miles. Everything o has done so far is to show he's different than miles.

I feel like calls like this happen to try and appease the fan base...anything to show a difference between how they coach vs Les...
I thought it was a bad decision especially considering how explosive our run game had been...

And this is a bad thing HOW?

Really the only way we win games is to do what Miles did not do and that was to get our offense scoring points and being less predictable.

How do you guys question this call, the execution was poor but the only way we win out is to not coach this team like Les Miles did. In my opinion the first 2 offensive series were straight from the Les Miles script he did throwing jabs to start the game and if anything coach O needs to open up the offense more

Coach O learned from that. It won't happen again.

Yep. Once again Ranters are confusing execution problems with playcalling problem. Certainly, you can question the call based on your philosophy -just like you can question it if all we did was ran out the clock. In the end, if the play goes for a long gain everyone is saying O is a genius.

I thought it was one of the worst play calls I've seen in football thus far this season. 1:19 left with a 8 point lead. Absolutely no reason to be aggressive in that spot, against that offense that can score in an instant.

That was a horrible decision and play call. You run the ball and the clock. Force OM to take TO and worst case scenario gets the ball back and has to try a long field goal before half time.

Those of you saying "I liked the aggressive play calling" in that situation prove your lack football knowledge.

Gotta disagree with the first poster, that was a horrible call and very poor coaching decision. Even before that, if you wanted to get another score, why didn't we call a time out while Ole Piss ran the clock down. It was so obvious that they weren't going for it. So where's the questions about clock management. In my opinion, letting the clock run and not calling time out was an indication that we had no real intention to attempt a drive and therefore should have just run the clock out or at least run the ball first.

This is on the money. It was a stupid and unnecessary call, and it cost us. LF was totally unstoppable at this point, and he had just sat out the previous drive. In this case, it doesn't matter what the clock says. He's that big of a weapon. If he gets stopped, we run the clock and go in ahead. If he breaks off another big one, which was pretty likely at that point, then we are out of the shadow of our own end zone and have more flexibility. Worst call of the night, and Ensminger had a few stinkers.

Nope. I'd be saying I'm glad we got away with being overly-aggressive. Kind of like the bad decision to take the ball to open the game with those first 6 scripted plays.

I'm really glad we were the better team and overcame several bad decisions last night. However, the staff needs to check tape. Bama won't be this generous.

it was a one score game

Ole miss was getting second half kick

We had time and timeouts.

Two reasons to throw it.

Worst call all year? this place and hyperbole. Just diving it in the line is dumb, ole miss would get ball at 50 with time left, they had two timeouts if I remember.

You had to gain ground there

That's like three reasons to throw it

This. If it would have gone for a big gain instead we would not have this thread.

That's the price for being unpredictable. You need to sometimes take risks. I like the aggressiveness and if we continue to throw in unexpected wrinkles, it will keep other defenses more honest, having to respect the play action.

MT should have tackled his guy in that situation though. Maybe they'll work that this week.

Nope. Not in this game. OM's D Line was getting killed and they hadn't even sniffed stopping LF running north-south yet.

If you call a pass there, it should have been a screen or a quick 3 step slant to protect the QB. They tried to take a shot and it backfired. So, maybe a better, more fitting pass call works fine. THAT CALL was a disaster, especially against a D that we know can rush the passer.
