Apparently our dog is barking a lot when we are not home. I would correct the behavior but she never barks when one of us is home, only when we are gone.

The neighbors have been nice about it while we try different things but I don't want to be a dick neighbor.

Any recs would be appreciated and please let me know what has worked or failed for you. Thanks!

Get a house and move out of your shitty apartment. Your dog doesn't thank you for living in a shitty place without a backyard.

Exercise. Exercise. And more exercise.

Wear her out.

This will correct most bad behaviors. She has built up energy.

If you aren't able to exercise her, try this:

Leave tv on.

That's what we do.

It's the subtle noise that distracts our dog or at the least provides the same atmosphere as when we're home.

I second the SportDog one. My dog needs one. Don't waste money on cheaper ones, they aren't as effective, aren't water resistant, and have really crappy collars that come off. Thanks for being a thoughtful neighbor.

In college, we tried a barking shock collar with no dog. Friend put it around his neck and barked. Ripped the collar off his neck. As he tells the story, he hasn't barked since.
