yes, doing lots of rocks and a waterfall.

all of that above is 51k quoted. no hot tub(didnt want one)

Thats interesting about the depth. i believe you, however its funny because ive asked everyone i can find who has a pool what they have and like/dislike, etc. ive interviewed about 12 people and all have at most a 6 foot deep pool and love it.

the one friend i have who bought an old house with an old school pool with a 10 foot end said he wishes it was shallower because they never go to the deep end.

my wife and kids are home all the time and she just wants to lay out and the kids all stay in the shallow end. i know that will change, but we want a pool to play basketball and volleyball in. none of us care about diving and jumping off a board or anything.

i thought most pools these days were around that size?

what do you think of the overall size? i was thinking that was too big?

That's an average sized pool. How old are your kids? I understand the basketball/volleyball but if they are younger, that may change. I'm not saying to go 10ft, but 7 is good if they will be jumping in later.
The problem with a sport pool is you are almost always standing on a slope. If you stay with the sport, I would keep it at 5ft so the slope is minimal.
Lots of people want to do that style when their kids are young because they say they worry about their kids in deep water. A child can drown in 3ft just as easily as 7ft.
At the end of the day, I tell all my customers get what you want. You are the one using the pool daily and it's your money. Build what is most appealing to you and your wife.
You mentioned the variable speed pump for the pool. Make sure you are also getting a booster pump for the waterfall. At least a 1.5 HP. Does the pool come with a remote control for that price? 51k seems steep with no spa. How many tons is the waterfall? Does this also include a cleaner like a Polaris? Ask about the Polaris 9350. I would recommend that as a cleaner.
