Depends on how it was done. If it was done after Katrina with fema money it's trashy.

It's comical seeing all those houses down around Erath and Delcambre that are raised to the heavens but instead of leaving the area underneath they bring in loads of dirt then top that with a driveway at 30 degrees or something obnoxious.

I grew up in a pier and beam house. It was old. And also not in a subdivision. It was a lot more common in older houses. Certainly not automatically trashy as there are tons of extremely nice pier and beam homes. Not just to prevent flooding. But most are not going to be newer construction or in your 50k/year millionaire, cookie cutter neighborhoods (which I'm not totally knocking since I live in one).

Hers isn't like that. She had a cement slab poured under the entire house, we installed some nice LED lights, the underside is all trimmed out so you don't see insulation and pipes other than a few pieces of conduit and a friend of my Uncles built her an elevator. There's 2 stair cases and a porch that goes around the entire perimeter. She had a window unit that would cool the house, when she got it raised she had central air put it. It's really nice.

Then you need to get out more and look around.

Crawl space homes are very common where I am. In fact, slab homes are typically the cookie cutter cheap houses from what I've seen. I prefer crawl space to slab actually. Best of all, all the utilities are under the house and are easier to maintain.

Another edit: Not to mention, the storage space of a home with a crawl space. It is awesome.

My grandma built her house on wooden pilings and everyone thought she was crazy. 4 months after it was finished Hurricane Juan flooded everybody but her and they all had to take boats to her house.

We've been over this a thousand times: it's trashier to start a thread on the OT about something being trashy
