I'm building a new house and I'm in the process of planning out the tech.

3,520 S/F Living
4,796 S/F Under Beam (Porches and small storage building. No garage as the lot doesn't support it.)
Two story
Rectangular in shape

- Monitored Alarm System
- Security Cameras (Not sure how many? Not sure both outside and inside?)
- Whole House Audio (Inside and Outside)
- My wife and I aren't huge movie watchers and she hates loud movies but I still think it may be nice to have surround sound in either or both the living room and study.
- I like the idea of automation and lighting controllers, etc. but I'm not sure what is useful and such.

- On the second floor I have a 3' wide x 8' deep closet that I plan to use as a media closet for all structured wiring and such. It is on the side of the house where most of the TVs would be and also towards the middle of the house. I like the idea of keeping all of my equipment on a rack in this room so I don't have dvd players, boxes, etc. at each TV. Also if I buy a neat piece of hardware such as a Roku, Apple TV, etc. it could hopefully be shared by multiple TVs.

First Floor:
- TV in Breakfast Area
- TV in Living Room
- TV in Study/Entertainment Room
- Computer station in Study/Entertainment Room
- TV on Rear Patio

Second Floor:
- TV in Master Bedroom
- TV in Master Bathroom
- TV in Daughter's Bathroom
- TV in Playroom
- I will at least wire for a TV on a second floor balcony coming off of the master bedroom.
- Computer Station Outside of Bedrooms

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I wouldn't put security cameras in my house.

With no specific questions or anything, this honestly feels more like a, "hey everyone, check out how awesome my new house is" post.

I mean, you have TVs in virtually every room in the house and outside the house, and security cameras and the works, I think you got it under control.

It will be good to have a media/network closet, but you're not going to be able to share Roku/AppleTV between multiple TVs. I mean it might be possible if you jump through hoops, but to me it seems silly because either multiple TVs will have to show the same show, or one TV will use the device and the others won't be able to at the same time. You would also have to deal with the range of the remote if the TV you're watching is too far from the media closet.

If your concern is clutter around the TVs, just get Roku sticks, or get the regular boxes and velcro them to the back of your TVs. They're small.

Install switched electrical outlets where you plan on hanging Christmas lights and other decorations.
