Just so I understand your logic, legalizing incest encourages child abuse, but legalizing other things, like say, alcohol does not encourage drinking, which is addictive and leads to alcoholism which leads to death, broken homes, and scarred children?

do you have any research that shows that is an epidemic among those children?

Yep.
He basically wants the "encourages" thing to only apply in this narrow case.
Other situations where the state doesn't ban a thing?
No effect on the thing.

No. You said it encouraged incest.
Nice try.
you definitely cannot read. Try reading this again.

Again, its not about 2 "adults" having sex. You missed my point. The point is there has to be some buttering up phase, whether it starts as a child or young adult. The parent holds power over the offspring in their developmental years. Are they sexually abusing their kids, by law? maybe, maybe not. For every report of child abuse that is reported, 2 incidents go unreported. But if the end result is incest as "adults", it doesn't make it any better.
You do realize that if incest was legal, it would only encourage this more, right?
hmmm i go on a spiel about child abuse, and then say "it would only encourage this more, right"?
yes, but hey, Im not talking about child abuse there.

because i don't equate child abuse & incest to alcoholism doesnt mean i disagree with your general point about alcoholism. It is just a bad comparison between the 2, as I stated in the very first post i made when you brought that up.

Nothing is "encouraged". That argument has gone down in a heaping flaming pile of garbage.
This case involves adults.
I oppose child abuse.

not discounting that, but that is based on a survey of kids who have thought about suicide. Not actually killed themselves.

How would you handle your adult off spring having sex with one of your relatives?
Do you call the cops? Threaten said relative? Give your kid a stern talking to? Or just say "he/she is an adult. They can do what they like".

Either lack of laws encourage things or they don't.
It can't encourage only the this you say it encourages you dolt

I suppose you're just trying to troll me judging by the insults, but if for some reason you aren't, wow.

I don't call the cops on adults doing stupid nasty shite.
You again seem to have this problem of assuming that just because a person doesn't want the state to jail people for a thing that this means the person has to be OK with the thing.
That's just not so

Just for reference, LE is for making incest illegal because he assumes(but hasn't provided evidence) that doing so would encourage incest with children.
But for the sake of logic, he supports alcohol being legal, which factually speaking does the following below.
Can you elaborate on your logic?
LINK
- Children of alcoholics are four times more likely to grow up to be alcoholics themselves, when compared to the general population.
- Children of alcoholics are more likely to suffer from mood disorders such as anxiety and clinical depression. They are also more likely to be diagnosed with conduct disorder, or chronic behavior that is marked by drug use, criminal activity, truancy, and general rule breaking.
- Having an alcoholic parent increases the risk of a child being mentally, emotionally, physically and sexually abused threefold, compared to the general population.
- Children of alcoholics are three times more likely to marry those with an alcohol abuse problem, when compared to the general population.
- Children of alcoholics often report high rates of aggression and impulsive behaviors.
- Young children of alcoholics often present with signs of anxiety and depression. These may include bed wetting, consistent crying, lack of friends and a social circle, fear of going to school, and persistent nightmares. Older children of alcoholics often spend time by themselves and may often shut themselves off in their own rooms. Depressive symptoms that are prevalent in teens of alcoholics may include perfectionism, hoarding, isolation, being self-conscious, and the development of excessive phobias and fears.
- Children of alcoholics often suffer from more physical and mental distresses than other children. Inpatient rates, or the number of children admitted to the hospital, are some triple that compared to children without an alcoholic parents. For mental disorders the number is about double. Children of alcoholics also suffer injuries at about one and a half times more than other children.
- Total costs for healthcare for children of alcoholics is about 32% greater than children without an alcoholic in the family.
- Children of alcoholics tend to score lower when it comes to verbal skills and cognitive ability. This can interfere with their performance at school and with interpersonal relationships and friendships. In later life it can also interfere with their ability to handle job interviews.

I haven't stated whether I think alcohol should be legal or not. Lol
Posted on 9/14/16 at 11:51 am to ShortyRob
So you'd disown your kid, no questions asked? You wouldn't suspect that maybe this said relative could have possibly abused your child as a kid?
You think your kid wakes up one day wanting to frick their uncle? A kid that you raised.

Oh. Now you're adding shite.
OK. Assuming he grew up near the relative, yes, I would examine whether it happened earlier.

No. I don't. But, I went with your hypothetical.
I've already said child incest should be illegal so what's your point?
If it occurs, the state should be involved.
You seem to want to jail people on the ASSUMPTION it started as a child.
People don't get jailed for assumptions.
If they did, then when a guy beats his wife, they should arrest his father cause it's common for sons of wife beaters to grow up to be wife beaters.
Or. We could just go with this crazy that the state can't jail you for what it thinks you MIGHT have done.
