While I'm thinking about it with HP. It's always bugged me that people can't say Voldemorts name. I mean cmon that's a little silly. We can all say Hitler
I recently rewatched death hallows. It bugged me every time I heard Harry say "you know who."

But that made sense bc they had cursed the name to find people. Which is actually another issue that goes a long with the underage magic thing. Seems pretty easy to track people with magic

so I went on a bit of HP economics deep dive last night. I have theory that can explain this.
The Muggle governments are in on the cover-up. The wizarding word has a metric shite-ton of gold. One of the reasons Vold was so dangerous is that he could tank the muggle market with by flooding the market with gold.
So Muggle government step up exchanges to wizards can transfer money for everyday purchase in the muggle world but limit the amount of wizard gold that can come over.
1 galleon is roughly $7.35usd

If you like skewering bad writing, you need to read Jenny Trout's blog posts where she recaps each Fifty Shades book chapter by chapter. The posts are hilarious. I honestly don't know how E.L. James didn't physically feel every single insult. It's brutal...and glorious.

Why didn't Major Nelson and Darren let Jeannie & Samantha use their powers all of the damn time!

Doctor Who: 50+ minutes of environment building and flirting, then the solution to the problem gets solved in 5 minutes with a massive story bit explaining how we logically got to our solution. If it's a two-parter, add an additional hour of environment building.
Star Wars: Why does the Death Star need to be the size of the Moon? Especially with what we know about nukes? How the frick does that thing jump to hyperspace to get across the galaxy? Why did it move slowly around Endor? Why didn't they just blow up Endor instead, likely decimating the moon as well? Also, frick Midichlorians.
Back to the Future II and III: Why was Doc Brown in such a hurry to quickly get from one point in time to another? It's not like they couldn't have waited a few minutes before going back.
American Dad: It's a Family Guy rip off, but 'Murica. Also, the first two seasons where McFarland was pushing a "Republicans have gone too far with patriotism" political message were probably two of the un-funniest seasons of a comedy show ever.
Family Guy: Just a Simpsons rip-off. Also, stopped being funny when they switched to Widescreen/HD. The Empire parody was the actual shark-jump, but it was ironic that every episode since was in HD.
The Simpsons: This show stopped being funny after Season 10 or 11 and while I understand a few more seasons, I have no idea how it's still been going on for this long.

Varsity Blues: Did they all just quit the team after winning district? And were there no assistant coaches?

American Dad puts much more effort into the story as opposed to the parade of gags that makes up Family Guy.

it opens up too many obvious questions, #1 being why the hell wouldn't Dumbledore go back in time and kill 11 year old Voldemort when he met him at the orphanage
This one is a problem in all time travel stories. Don't change the past. I probably can't counter your point well enough to change your view, but Dumbledore was very idealistic so he probably would have viewed it as necessary to follow that rule.
quote:
Second complaint is Harry's attitude and temper. He has the emotions of a small child, ESPECIALLY in the 5th book. He refuses help and literally is the only reason Sirius died, fricking idiot
Teen angst.
quote:
There are lots of these whether it be side by side apparation (why didn't they do this to get to the quidditch World Cup? How is it possible Harry is one of the only people in his class to have ever done this?).
I'd have to re-read, but isn't side-by-side apparition a dodgy concept? Plus there weren't enough adults for every child. Port key was probably a safer option.
quote:
Also the ministry of magic can keep tabs on anyone doing magic around a minor? How could they not find anyone they wanted? How did they not know Voldemort killed his father when he was 16? It wasn't suspicious that he was in a house he'd never been in and 3 people were killed that night?
Maybe it wasn't policy at the time to keep tabs on underage wizards. Maybe Voldemort was the reason they created that policy.
quote:
Finally the way they "trick" muggles. Seriously are people in England retarded? Most of the shite they do to trick them is amazingly obvious and would never work in a million years. Nobody notices several 100 people going through a brick wall at a busy train station twice a year?
Magic.

My guess is to support what's needed to house the giant arse laser cannon that destroys planets.

Someone else may be able to answer, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't be able to.
quote:
Why did it move slowly around Endor?
It was at Endor being constructed while under the shield provided by the generator there.
quote:
Why didn't they just blow up Endor instead, likely decimating the moon as well?
See previous. It would leave an unfinished Death Star vulnerable.

I mean Harry does it with Dumbledore in book 6 and Dumbledore doesnt seem at all concerned (yes I know Dumbledore is on a different level than most wizards). Then in book 7 Harry, Ron, and Hermione do it all the time and the only time they have trouble is when that guy grabs them.

It was policy bc Harry asks that exact question to Dumbledore and Dumbledore says since his crazy Uncle was in the vicinity and claimed responsibility they just believed him. But they would've known Tom Riddle was there how could they not? Nobody was suspicious of this?

Mine's just a small peeve....
Why did George RR Martin start a brilliant fantasy series he had no intention of finishing?

Can the ghosts in Harry Potter frick each other, or can people frick them? Because I would totally bone Moaning Myrtle, for obvious reasons.

Caught The Insider the other day. I always do when it's on since it's full of such great performances. I rarely nitpick a score, but roughly halfway through - right after the great deposition scene, and lots of really nice score work - a new theme is introduced that (to me, anyway) goes ten miles past the movie and is utterly overwrought and conspicuous.
This sweeping mantra would be perfect for Gladiator, which figures since the piece's co-writer is the great Lisa Gerrard, who sang the same (fitting) style for that picture. I guess it's a nod to his impossible fight against big tobacco, but it's just too much and it reappears several more, awkward times.
Either way, it doesn't keep me from loving a film that earned seven oscar noms. It just feels like every time it plays the movie has to put on a toga until it's over.

I don't love the movie but but have seen the Incredible Hulk a few times for entertainment value. The one with Edward Norton and Tim Roth.
The back to back scenes that annoy me are where it's night and she picks him up on a bridge while it is raining. He lays the seat back in her car and doesn't raise it back up until the are in her garage. It is DARK out and he is hiding and they are being secretive.
The next morning when they show them again they are walking down the street to a park in broad daylight. He has the elaborate disguise of wearing a baseball cap. She has no disguise at all. Why go from being all secretive and hiding to "hey, let's go for a walk in the park in broad daylight".
They had to get to the park for the big battle scene so maybe they should have edited the hiding night scene.

I've read close to 10 of John Sandford's Prey series books and love them (Silken Prey is by far my favorite). I just got my first Virgil Flowers book by him
Any reviews on that series? Also, are there any movies after any of his Prey series books?

This just bothers me about The Jungle Book movie. I loved the movie, but it takes Mowgli many days to journey to the man village with Bagheera and then with Baloo. However when he learns of Akela's death, at the jaws of Shere Khan, he is able to run back to the river in a few minutes.
