If you gotta worry about 4" of distance then you can't make the kick. Go for it on 4th.

Just going off memory, looks like a 3" pvc pipe to me. 4" looks too big

Not specified. What matters is that top edge of the cross bar is 10 feet above the ground and the uprights are 18'6" apart inside edge to inside edge.

I've seen a few... They were 4" schedule 40 pipe (4" pipe actual dia. is 4.5")

The center post was 5" dia... not sure what the uprights were.... looked like 4" as well.
