"It's not about hate. It's about old-school culture, old-school thinking," Monique Walker told the jury.

The defense didn't call any witnesses and didn't present any evidence. Blackwell, who remained stoic throughout the trial, did not take the stand. He showed no reaction when the verdict was read.

That's one hell of a lawyer he had there.

Yep, don't wanna go back to those old fashioned days when it was perfectly acceptable to go around throwing boiling water on other folks just cus they were different.

I'm not sure that there was much of a defense that she could have mounted for a guy who took the time to boil water.

There is a difference between an assault and a battery

I personally don't care about the gay aspect. A hate crime is just a crime to me. But shite, pouring boiling water on people is freaking torture. That's a demented person who could not care less about the life of another human being. It's about as close to murder as you can get in terms of seriousness.

*I don't know much about this story, so I'm picturing guys with burns covering their body. Not just a small splash or anything.

You're forgetting there are two victims. 2 convictions of murder will not get you less than 40 years I believe.

I didn't realize old school culture/thinking was immune to hate.
